Honestly oil filter wise it should be short if you order one for the LT1. About a year back all of the filters got shorter for our cars for some reason.
Oil wise I run whatever Advance Auto/Autozone has for sale. I never stick to one brand.
See? THEY ARE SHORT! WHY????!!!!! I find it a pain in the ***. Now I know about the AC Delco 1218 filter though, I'll be running it or its equivalent from now on.

German Castrol Syntec 0W-30 (it's really closer to 0W-40) and a k&n 3002 or mobil 1 302. Both these filters are designed for late 80s to mid 90s chevy trucks. They can hold like a quart of oil (but I don't fill them that much). They worked on my car with manifolds, shorties, longtubes, and longtubes + canton pan...

God I hate these threads. Everyone has a preference and nobody has a real reason for it...most people just go by what they have heard or what some bias "testing" has said...pick a decent brand name and you probably wont ever see a problem with it.
I personally run Mobil1 5W30 and a wix filter...why? Because it's the same oil they use in corvettes from the factory and they last hundreds of thousands of miles on the same oil so it will work fine for my car...and looking at a Wix filter cutaway it looks better built than many other brands, but it isn't outrageously expensive either...
Royal purple might be better? Castrol might be better? Idk...neither does anybody in this thread probably...

i've used wix filters on everything... all started with a grandfather he was using wix filters in he flathead v8 dirt miget cars so i kept it going, also i used to work at a massive auto parts warehouse and had a guy come compare filter brands, wix has a much better micron filter and anti-drain back valves that eliminate dry start. now to the oil, my pops always used valvoline since he had performance cars in the 60's and 70's where there was real cars lol, i run valvoline in everything buy the camaro, i will be honest i went with royal purple just of word of mouth that its the best but seeing on here their day waste of money?.. i dont like wasting money but on the other hand should i go back to valvoline then? WTF lol
