Do you know your cr? in the end it's all in the tune. I would say a stock motor with the best tune might be better than a all forged motor that's lean and has to much timing. Whatever you do you'll enjoy it it's a whole nother game...

Both the lt1 & ls1 will take a 100shot stock no problem.

We, at least I, know that, but the topic got me thinking about nitrous for a second.

Has the block been decked? How much? What CC are the combustion chambers in the heads?
What are the flow numbers of the heads? What are the intake port sizes? What are the cam specs?

These are all things that we need to know to provide a more accurate guess.
I make 648 RWHP @ 6500 RPM (15 psi) on a Procharger F1.
Theoretically, a motor built a lot like mine would be able to make 600+ at 13-15 psi.

Need more numbers.

im not sure of the cc on the heads. all i know is they are port and polished. they were on it when i got the car. cam is a comp .503 intake .510 exhaust. i think im gonna need a custom grind cam for the turbo. heads have never been on a flow bench.

My last build was a 383 with 16 cc dish pistons, but with 53.6 cc combustion chambers, my CR was still around 10.6-10.7:1 so I only ran about 6 lbs of boost. I ran a water/methanol injection system with no intercooler and had it tuned and it did pretty well, all things considered. With a 224/236 573/571 116 lsa cam and just mildly cleaned up heads, it made 467 rwhp/ 470 rwtq.

Not to hijack, but I have a question or 2: isn't a dish the same as inverted dome? Why call it -16cc if it's really adding 16cc? At +16cc, your still above 10:1 cr assuming 54cc chambers.

yeah my motor is being built with 31cc dishes and 61cc chambers to get to 8.8:1 but I plan on running 18-20psi. yours sounds like it will most likely be a wee high for serious boost, but you can still probably get away with a low boost set up

As long as the tune is done correctly used discipline. LT1 owners by the **** ton have put spray on their car, got greedy and have blown ring lands out the exhaust only to land upon the windshield of some unsuspecting vehicle sending it careening off the road in a fiery ball-o-death.

383 with -20cc pistons and 62cc heads = 9.3ish to 1

54.4 or 54.9 i think, 54.4 were LT4s and 54.9 were stock LT1

I ran into this problem with my stock heads when I went to build my motor, that's the main reason I went with the trickflows (though now I wish I had gone with AFRs). Pretty much the only way to get compression down low enough with the stock heads is to run a -31cc piston. Heads might be in your future unless you want to run low boost.... though you could try a custom cometic head gasket to help get your compression down more..... though you're still stuck pulling the heads if you go that route.
