Default Need help with my 94 z28

I recently had my camaro in the shop, I did the work. I fixed an oil leak coming from the water pump seal, and put on lt headers, and 10.5 mm wires. In the process we messed up the distributor, so I replaced the distributor. Car ran fine for 15 miles home.... Now the car is acting like it's starving for fuel or missing.... So I replaced the fuel filter, didn't fix it.... Checked my coil connection, it's fine. Idk what the prob is.... I was told could be egr being not connected to my headers, bc they are non emissions, so I disabled them and blocked it with plates, still not fixed.... Any ideas? Do u think it could be o2 sensors? Any help would be great thanks

Did the car run fine prior to you doing the work? If so it stands to reason that something you did is causing the issues. If the EGR is blocked off, you'll get an SES but it won't cause any problems.

How exactly did you "mess up the distributor?" And 10.5mm wires are incredibly unnecessary and provide zero benefit.

Check the opti harness connection (four pin harness).

Check your fuel pressure with a $30 FP gauge also.

We were pulling the distributor, to check for oil leaks in the seals. We were following the book, unnecessary for what it told us, it said pull the cap and rotor, although we did, we didn't need to. Anyways in the process the distributor took a six foot swan dive into the concrete floor. We checked everyhing and put it back together and on the car, it wouldn't work... So we replaced it. Ses light does come on. Car ran perfect before we started. The car runs fine for the first mile or so... The starts acting up. I'm clueless

I would suggest pulling the codes to see what it is first off, since it is throwing a code.
Secondly I wouldnt have any faith in that opti whatsoever.
and last of all once those headers heat cycle a few times they will foul your o2 sensors, so when you do replace those do not use Bosch, get some Denso's.

I'll have to buy a code reader bc no one here uses obd1 anymore. The opti has only been on my car for a week. It has a lifetime warranty so I'm good there, you think the o2 sensors could be tripping it like that?

It is cheaper and better to buy an ALDL cable and use a laptop with free programming.

What that lifetime warranty doesn't tell you is that for the rest of your life you will be changing that opti out with new units from them just like it Don't take my word for it search it. Delco/Delphii is the only way to go, unless you have an all out race application.

It could be a number of things, but yes O2 sensors can and will do that as well as the temp sensor in the water pump.

also you have long tube headers now and dont have it programmed for that... the car could be sensing false knock.. making it slow

The car is not slow when it first comes on, when there is no Ses light, when the Ses light comes on it starts crapping out. I heard deco doesn't make opti anymore, that if it says delco it is a fake. I didn't think you would have to tune in the lt headers to make it run regularly, I understand gettin the full potential, you need it tuned. Might make a big diff in diagnose help, I do not have my exhaust from the ory back, that would cause probs too wouldn it?

I will see about dropping from 10.5mm to 8.5mm these wires allow no flex within the limited space you have

Just one more question, is it possible that with the 10.5 mm wires, the coil can't push enough spark?? Could this cause a jerking, or not likely?

The size of the wire is just the thickness of the insulation

The ICM can over heat and cause problems as well. Hopefully a new wire will fix the problem though. ICM "cooling mod" http://shbox.com/1/4th_gen_tech2.html#ICM_cooling

There are several thigs it could be, you are just guessing at it because yoiu have YET to retrieve the codes that is telling you EXACTLY why it is running poorly.

I will list what I would check into if it were mine.

1. Scrap those wires they are ****. There are low impedance and Hi Impedance wires. One works the others arent so friendly....search for the answer.

2. That opti is **** too, and where I wouldplace my money on your problems. Go to ebay and type delphii opti in the search bar and you will get what you need. They are @ $300.

3. The LT's could be doing one fo two things. They WILL foul your O2 sensors. After a few heat cycles so that the coating completely burns off the inside of the headers, change them with Delco or Denso, don't use BOSCH or you will be posting here again. The LT's also like to find spark plug wires and burn through them. You might want to wait until night and in an unlit area pop the hood and start the car. See if you have a lightning show under the hood.

There are also multiple items to check with a meter listed on shbox.com

I'm buying a scanner from a friend this weekend, so I'll get the trouble codes... I'm
Looking into the wires, and all... The o2 sensors and extensions will cost me $130 & plug wires $130.. I'll start there and work from that point. Thanks guys
