just drive it easy......beleive it or not my lt gets about 15 on the highway and its tolerable around town if i drive easy and use my lockup converter..........but the instant you put your foot in it you can literally watch the gas gauge go down......
its actually not bad at all to drive and have fun.........untill you get to the pump and C12 is 9.75/Gal lol

before the cam I was gettin 32mpg on the highway while cruising @ 80-100 in 6th. used to do 450mi round trips on 1 tank every summer.
dd's are the best way to go tho and certainly keeps the camaro fun when I jump in.

Get an LS1 computer and activate lean cruise, MPG can go up about 4mpg, mess with DFCO get another 1-2mpg. Run slightly lean at idle some too running open loop exclusively (it will run better too if its camed)

Clever right foot helps. My worst tank is 13 mpg and that was 3 weeks of just driving to the racetrack andback, including about 8 passes per time. Outside of that, I find it almost impossible to get less than 17 in normal driving with hills, and have gotten 25 mpg with the top down in a bit of traffic going down the shore last summer. Average is 19-20 90% around town.

LT1 mileage
I have a 97 Firebird Formula with the LT1 350 and 4-speed automatic tranny and 137k miles on it. This is one of three cars in my stable and I drive it to work Mon-Wed, then shift to another vehicle on Thurs and drive the third on Fri. Batteries need to stay charged and it does a car no good to let it sit a long time. On the weekend it is a mixed-bag as to what I drive for any given reason or purpose. My city runs to work are about 10 miles each way and a good 50 percent is via freeway. I run regular (though I have tried mid-grade once). After running a tank with STP super concentrate FI cleaner then SeaFoam through the intake and in another tank, I was getting 18.1 in city use. Not bad but I decided to experiment with additives to see if this could be improved. On a fresh tank of regular I added 5 oz. of STA-BIL Ethanol Treatment, one 12 oz. bottle Warren FI and Carb cleaner, then refilled the Warren bottle with Nitrotane (20% Nitro Methane for RC use) and added that. I'm sure at this point I will be attacked for the use of Nitrotane so go ahead and let the condemnations fly. Interestingly, running this mixture is netting 20.68 MPG in city use, a 15% increase in mileage which I was surprised by. I haven't checked the highway mileage since I haven't had a reason to make a road trip. I try to drive civilized but on occasion I do accelerate harder than normal to merge with interstate traffic or pulling out onto a heavily congested 2-lane leaving work.
Of this vehicle I have to say it is the cleanest running I've ever had. The inside of the quad exhaust tips are very clean and without black soot deposits. I traded a 93 3.0 Ford Ranger in on this car that was particularly BAD for sooty exhaust (frequently had to be cleaned off the white paint behind the side-exit exhausts).
In my other vehicles (a 2002 Jaguar X-Type 2.5 and a 2003 Mazda Miata 1.8) I usually run Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas with each fillup and the occasional Prestone (yellow bottle) FI cleaner although I haven't used either in the Firebird. By the way, the Prestone FI cleaner is the only one I've used that actually helps your mileage a little bit while it's in the tank rather than hurting it as most seem to do.
The only mods to the LT1 are a SLP airfoil on the throttle body and the use of synthetic oil.

proper tire pressure, m6's skip from 1st gear to 4th, higher octane gas, lowering car weight, keep air cleaner clean, and lastly draft behind a semi truck for less air drag!
I get about 19-20mpg driving to work and I don't baby my car. Enjoying the drive and feeling some power is worth the loss of gas mileage by leaving the v6 at home.
