How bad is it to drive at high RPM's all the time?
Just out of curiosity, i have a nice motor we put together, but just about every time i drive it I take it up to 6800RPM from 1st - 5th gear and hold it at 6000 (150mph) on the freeway for a while. I noticed it's been starting to miss like crazy after doing that (maybe I need a new opti?). If I keep doing that a lot is there a good chance it's going to toast the motor?
When cruising I usually keep it at 2000rpm in 6th and I save the high RPM's for when I'm ripping on it. Sometimes I like to cruise thru town at 4000rpm for a while to hear the sound though..

It really just depends how deep your pockets are and how much and what you have in your engine. If you have upgraded bottom end thats built to take the abuse and a upgraded oiling system, then do what you wanna do, your only wasting fuel

WTF I hope you at least have upgraded your brakes. Just because you can go 150 doesn't mean you should on a public road. Honestly my car doesn't belong on the street and is a convertible so it isn't for the track either. I haven't had to run mine past 125 for anything, the fastest I go is usally on the onramps.

the more rpms, the shorter the life but I bet you anything the 1st thing you blow up is your rear end. heat builds up fast at sustained high speeds and rears (especially10brokes) don't like heat. if you DO drive your car for long periods over 100 I'd fab up a diff cooler personally, if I ever make it out to nevada for the silver state national I'm def throwing one on. traveling from the border to boston(330mi) @ 145mph killed my posi and left the diff w/ a nice whine -but it still hasn't blown up!(knock on wood)

LOL...I've had my car since 1997 and can count on one hand how many times been over 150....did hit the redline in 5th at 160MPH once on I-77 in Virginia just to say I buried the speedo....was young and stupid...the car was all over the road at that speed; one twitch of the wheel and you jump into the next lane. OP might want to slow your roll

....Idk what to say.... I thought driving 90 everywhere on the freeway was bad enough but a sustained 150? Hell I've hit 135 but in a convertible with the top down it feels a little squirly. I can't imagine holding 150 on public roads for 5 miles...
