Default Cooling additive

Anybody running Royal purples or 30 below cooling system additive? If so does it work or does it cause more harm then good? Not having any cooling problems but with temps reaching 108 last week the extra protection couldn't hurt.......

I've used it (as well as "Wetter Water"), but did not see any difference; if you want to increase the thermal effeciency of your "Dexcool" equipped car, flush the cooling system twice (so it's 100% H2O) then add regular / old style / Green / Polyethelyen Glycol (spelling???) based coolant (55 to 59% coolant / 44 to 41% H2O) - that (and a 160 degree thermostat) will add a factor of safety to your cooling system.

the water wetter or purple ice works better in vehicles with mostly water in the system...........i run the water wetter personally but i only run 1 gallon of coolant and the rest water and the car does run a hair cooler...........i can cruise around on a 90* day with a 5300 converter and 14:1+CR and never go over 205* with a stock radiator and stock fans......

Same here, car never sees anything higher than 185 even in FL weather.

I used one of those additives, I believe it was 40 below but I can't swear to it. Put in my 62 Chevy II with Dart Aluminum heads and a Be Cool radiator. It turned to rock! What a friggin disaster! never again. Zerex-G05 HOAT is very good coolant.

Al 95 Z28, working on a way to lock out the trans brake.....

Just use the proper mix of Prestone green and water. The water MUST be distilled water-it has no minerals in it.

Or, for a little more money, get the Prestone 50/50 pre-mix.

90+ here in CA and my car runs never even makes it to 180; but I have a 160 thermostat. If you want to run cooler just install a colder thermostat tune for it.

Thanks guys. I guess the answer is it does help with thermal effeciency. I wasn't seeing high temps, I think 185 was the highest I saw. I have a 160 stat and fans are set to come on at 185. For peace of mind I will flush the system twice and add new coolant with distilled water mixture. Now I just need to make my final descison on a cam

I run a 180 stat here. 50/50 of green with water wetter/purple ice/whatever was at the store. With 115* days and a/c on it stays between 180-190. I think the biggest trick on these cars is to reprogram the fans.

I'm running water wetter with a stock thermostat and a PCM4less tune that brings the fans on at 195 degrees. Temp never climbs above 200 even in bumper to bumper traffic here in south Texas. Prior to that, temp would get up to close to 240 in bad traffic. Nerve racking to say the least.
