Not yet. I don't have the tools to take it apart where I am at now. I will do that when I get home tonight.

i thought my car was running hot because of the electric water pump.. about 190-210

that's with a 160 thermostat on a 115 degree day. guess it's not that bad. i'm use to it never going above 185ish though

Why do your guy's cars run so hot? In AZ sitting in traffic with a/c on mine never gets that hot. The most I have seen on mine is just below the 210* mark. I run a 180* stat and have my fans programmed. You guys auto?

Someone already asked if there were any small children stuck in the radiator. I blew mine out from the back with a garden hose and all kinds of debris came out, but no small kids...

My car is a 6 speed. Belt driven water pump. How full is the radiator supposed to be when cold? Right to the top?

its got a mezierre electric pump on it......always creeps up a bit........yesterday it was 93* here and crusing at 75-80 on the highway i was running like 215-220*......got back on side roads and it went down to 190 or so.......just seems like the radiator cant cool it down fast enough.......if its cooler out though like 75-80* its perfectly fine will run 190-195 all the time.....

yep lol
This is common with electric pumps. The higher the sustained rpm, the warmer it will run. A factory pump would likely help (increases flow with rpm), but a larger radiator may as well.

LT1 waterpumps are gear driven with the timing chain. no belts for the waterpump on these cars. and yes it should be completely full.

Go figure that would be the case... And I thought I was being smarter.. Should have just saved myself the embarrassment and said it wasn't electric. lol

So you have a stock water pump.

If there's no bag or trash sucked up in there:

-Maybe the radiator is clogged because it's fill of junk. Ever blow a head gasket on this car? Some have thoroughly flushed their radiators or replaced them outright and the problems were cured.

-Maybe the water pump impeller is rotted away and smaller than it's supposed to be. (Unlikely as you cool better when standing still but still a possibility)

Look under the hood latch. There should be plastic shrouding that directs the air through the condenser and radiator. Some people take it off for some reason

No bags or small children. lol The radiator is actually quite clean. I think it just has to do with the fans being on while on the highway.

I have also been troubleshooting why the radiator won't keep coolant up to the top and I think I figured that out tonight... The over flow tank I just got (to fix the broken battery tray) will let coolant go into the tank, but for some reason it doesn't flow freely back into the radiator. So I guess I will be going to get that thing warrantied tomorrow morning.

I thought my radiator was fairly clean too, but at 132000 miles it gave up. After I replaced it I run at 190 all the time even on plus 100 days in traffic. Before it would hit prolly 220 in traffic, I did take out the condenor and I forgot to put the plastic thing back on. The guy before me had the fans wired to be on all the time, don't know if I should get that fixed or not, but a nice clean radiator definitely changed the car

Yesterday I went on a 200 mile drive and it was getting up to around 230ish if I would leave it in 6th gear (at 75ish mph). If I would shift to 5th and keep the same pace it would cool back down to 215 or so. Why?

We don't have your car to check out, you do. There was a few suggestions on things you needed to check. How'd that all go?

I understand that. I was more or less looking for a reason that speeding up the engine would allow the car to cool down. Reasons I have come up with that would be possible are either that the water pump is moving faster OR that the engine has less of a load on it.

Everything that has been suggested has checked out fine. One thing I did leave out on accident in the above post is that the radiator will not suck fluid back out of the overflow. I have changed the radiator cap to rule that out. The overflow tank is brand new (not sure that that would have anything to do with it).
