LT1 PCM TUNING MODS "Need Suggestions"
stock 1996 Caprice LT1 with minor mods.
I'm going to get my PCM tuned but I need more suggestions on what I should get done. here's a list of what i have planned so far.
93 octane tune (what do you guys think of this?)
delete smog pump
delete rear o2's
lower fan turn on temp
change shift curves
change shift pressures for firmer shifts
etc.

I deleted all my emissions for sake of clean engine bay, and no emission testing where I live, can't say I've missed them. lol
I don't have rear 02s (95) so can't help there.
Lowering the temps for the fan wont do any good unless you put a different thermostat in. Lots of debate on if it does any good. That being said I have a 160 in my car.
I had the shifts made a little bit firmer on my tune, and I love it. Kick downs are a lot better to.
My .02.

I don't know what the deal is, but my 2000rpm range needed to be pulled down a significant amount. I had to stop tuning and logging due to the summer heat and no A/C... I'll check now...
ok so -12 degrees at 85map, 2000rpm. stays around -9ish until 4000 then -8ish down to -3 at 5000 rpm. Then I've added 3,4,5 degrees at 6000+
To be fair though, my tune is also below stock timing tables by about half those numbers.
When I get back into it I need to pull more in the even lower RPM range and may be able to add timing back in, but it won't be a ton. I still run a solid 2 degrees of knock the entire run, so I have plenty of work to do. AZ sucks.

Mines been on the car for close to two years and around 15k miles. Still runs like a champ.
Yea I'd wager AC is pretty much needed, plus the heat isnt gonna help your performance any either.
If you have the money, and can find a good tuner that will touch an lt1, nothing beats a dyno tune.

I would also say that a street/track tune are better than a dyno tune or even better a VERY WISE supplement to a good dyno tune.
