Default Exhaust

Currently looking for an exhaust and was wondering if a true dual setup would provide more power then a cat back set up such as SLP LM1/ Corsa exhausts. The car is a 94Z with bbk shorties into a y pipe to stock exhaust, no cat.

True duels will always make more power. Sound better as well.

You would also see more power if you ditch the shorties and put on a set of longtubes

I'm not so sure about the true duals making more power, maybe at a high horsepower level. I've tested my car at the track. I have a single 3" with a cut out. Going throught the muffler instead of cutout open I only lose about 1 MPH. I don't see how a dual set up would benefit my car. Plus it would add more weight. Just saying, maybe I'm wrong but don't see it.

The cutout just makes it so that the muffler and cats don't restrict the flow of exhaust. True duels doubles the amount of volume that can pass threw, creating less resistance, which in turn makes more power than just a cut out.

Just remember bigger is not always better. You need to keep the exhaust gases flowing correctly at proper temperature. Research before you just spend money on something not needed. Now if you just like the sound of true duals better than go for it and enjoy. Nothing like the sound of a great exhaust.

all i really wanted to see was if a true dual will make noticeable differences in power compared to a single 3in of SLP LM1 for example

I have had 3 different exhaust systems on my car. I've had the true duals with the H. The best, which I have now has produced the most power. A shorty header through a 2 1/2" Dr. Gas X pipe with Magnaflow mufflers. It netted 17 rwhp and 16 lb.ft. on the dyno. That's a 2 1/2" mandrel bent full exhaust through 4 Magnaflow mufflers.

While this may be true, he still needs enough power to make true duals even an option. A longtube/ory/catback setup will not hinder results compared to true duals at this stage... if he hasn't even picked up a good exhaust it's obvious he doesn't have anything else done.

I was going by his question, not his specs. In that point, you're correct. He doesn't need them. But if the goal here is power, then true duels are the way to go if he plans on doing more than just an exhaust. He isn't flowing enough to make duels a worthwhile investment, there I agree 100%

I just went to true duals on my car. Even tho it may make 7hp more than a y-pipe with cutout it doesn't sound as good as my Corsa catback did. especially wide open throttle.

Some true duals sound freaking awesome! But some sound like crap. If it's only a few horsepower difference I would do what sounds better.
