What's the point when it won't drive/idle/act like it should?

Get a tune, mail-order at the minimum.

Get it tuned. No point in potentially damaging your engine after youve spent time and money....

I drove my car around for almost six months with no tune with a Hotcam. The prior owner drove it like that for 3 other months. It ran pretty rich but it ran fine for those six months and was running great for the guy I sold it to last time I talked to him. The 502 is pretty similar to the hotcam.

I just bought the car to flip it. I wasnt sure what Id get out of the car when I sold it. I ended up getting a lot more than I thought I would though. Made 1100 off of it.

So wait all you did was get new springs and heads "Checked over" but in another thread it was "Ported and Polished heads?"

Mail order tune and be done with it

Why would anyone post I drove my car around for months with no tune? That is one of the.worst things you can do. You could have timing issues or multiple other issues and not even know it. Tune it or don't cam it simple as that. And if you search there are tons of threads on this.

Why? Because he asked if he could crank it and let it run. I told him my experience. I dont know how many of you have ruined engines by running it without a tune but I didnt. I bought the car with the cam in it and with a bad transmission. The transmission turned out to be a bad tps. The car turned out to be a worn out project and had lots of problems so I decided to sell it. I told the next owner it needed a tune, which was obvious by the speedo being off and the car running rich. I guess I didnt know about the "issues", but the car ran great and didnt burn any oil or smoke or knock. The plugs looked decent but you could tell the car was running rich. I guess what I was getting to is with a cam that small I really dont think it would hurt it to crank it and let it run without a tune.
Now that I know his heads were worked over, I wouldnt have posted what I said because my heads were stock and I dont know what kind of affect that would have.
