Default Very disappointed with G-Tech 1/4 mile times *vid included*

I did some 1/4 mile runs with the old first-model G-Tech Pro from 1994 last night. Untuned at a track, I ran 13.6 @ 108 mph with a pretty crappy launch. Now I've had my engine tuned but the track is closed so I'm using a G-Tech. I didn't think my launches were super horrible so I can't understand these slow times. Does anyone know whether the G-Tech needs to be oriented perfectly straight forward and back? It's got calibrations for vertical orientation so that's good. And yes, the road is perfectly flat.

I also realize it's speed is about 5 mph fast.

I would not base my times on the G-Tech. Obviously, get some tires and go to the track.

that looked like a 14 sec run to me. your lazy start is what killed it.

I know the starts weren't the best, but anything more aggressive than that would've meant wheel spin. When this car was stock with an auto, I ran a 14.3 @ 98 mph on street tires, that's probably the most frustrating part.

You always hook better at a well preped track. G meter is a waste of money unless you carving corners....

They have never been known to be accurate. Ever.

I have a G-tech and have used it several times. I lent it to a friend of mine at the track and he used it on 8 passes. Every single pass the G-tech had him .05-.08 slower, but it was very consistent. The m ph reads higher on the G-tech because it gives you the actual reading at the end of the 1/4 mile instead of the average speed over the last 60 feet. I got sick of it because it would fly off the windshield too much.

I wouldn't expect much more than 110mph traps with your engine setup.

The g-tech is very accurate don't listen to the bs posted. I have used one for years and its within a tenth of my local track. The mph reads about 5 over... Your shitty launch is whats killing you.

Yours must be the diamond in the rough. Ever since the g-tech has been out there have been countless complaints of ET's and especially MPH being far too generous.

You just simply aren't going to launch your car on the street the same as you will on a well prepped track... therefor your g-tech numbers will be skewed.

Id just use the g-tech as a off track tool to gauge any improvement in performance when time does not allow any track passes after any changes made to the car.
What size cam you have in that car? Looks like your only shifting at 5800-6000?

I used to go to the link in my sig for cam info but Golen doesn't list it on his site anymore for some reason. I believe it's around 224/230 or 226/232, something like that; 112 LSA. When I had it tuned, I told the tuner to stop at 6K and the horsepower curve hadn't started to decline at all. It was totally flat from 5K to 6K. I didn't want to rev super high because this is my dd first, toy second. Making it to the track asap next year is a must because of all this though.

We used a G-Tech on a 454 Nova we built years ago and it said the car ran from 12.40 @ 108 to 12.20 at 110.

The car actually ran 11.90s @ 112.

I just don't think those things are good for much. Maybe with data logging you could get some good info from one, but that is about it in my experience. Back in the day I had a Vericom product. It was far more accurate, but still not as good as going to the track.

Thanx. Mine is fairly quiet, but it still smells a bit at idle.

hmm that cam sounds similar to a cc503 ish. With that size cam im sure it wants to rev to 6500ish. Im sure your bottom can handle it. Your giving up alot of power by keeping that thing under 6k

I agree on the mph being generous, but the et's have always been accurate.... atleast on mine. I have used it on a half dozen different cars/trucks and its always within a tenth or so from the closest strip. Honestly over the years the only complaints I have herd is about it being stingy on the et, just as the op posted.

- My 96 m6 z28 when it was bone stock ran 14.0 @ 104.5 2.25 60ft(**** stock tires) on a 90 degree summer day. On the g-tech it ran 13.9-14.0 @ 108-109 same conditions.

- 2000 regal gs ran 13.8 @ 102, 2.0 60ft, 50 degree fall day at Munice. On the g-tech it ran consistent 13.7 @ 107 same conditions, same day.

- A friends 2001 regal GS went 14.0 @ 98 2.1 60ft, 70 degree day at muncie. on g-tech it went 13.9 @ 105. Conditions were slightly better the day we g-tech'd. Early spring, 50ish degrees.

edit* The last run in vid op ran 13.7, wich is only a tenth off from what he ran at the track.
