What is the QUIETEST muffler I can buy?
So I guess you can add me to the list of people who have a flowmaster, and can't stand it anymore, and I need a change. I honestly like the way it sounds most of the time, but it is impossible to leave my house unnoticed, and sometimes it would just be nice to blend in a little more.
So my question is what is the quietest muffler I can buy. I'm thinking of a stock muffler, and an electric cutout, so I can still be loud, as I enjoy it 80% of the time. Is there anything that will be quieter than stock?
I already bought the flowmaster catback, so I don't want another catback. Just a simple bolt on, or weld on single inlet, dual outlet muffler.

Just in trying to help you i came across a vetteboard muffler comparisson.
Borla XS was the questest of 15..then a flowtech warlock (closed i assume)...then dynomax ultra flow. Hooker max flow was the absolute questest, except at WOT.
heres the link..

a flowmaster 50series suv muffler is kind of quiet, and i assume the 40 series is louder then that. I thought the fbody cat back had an 80 series.
I also found something stating..
"Dynomax Hemi Super Turbos" are the queitest performance mufflers but that was back in 2004 lol.

I have the 50 series flowmaster, you would never know i have headers to a cattless Y. I think my muffler is stock after i have the cut outs open If you have the flowmaster cat-back i'm guessing you have an 80 series muffler?
40>80>50 when it comes to them as far as being noticed.

But do you think it's louder than stock? I'm trying to decide if my best solution is getting a stock muffler, but I'm not opposed to an aftermarket performance muffler either. I just want whatever is quieter.

haha I use to have to leaving my friends late at night or coming back home.
OP the flowmaster 50 series is quiet with headers, alot more that the other 2 series you've had. Stock muffler will be quieter but may be a restriction depending on your set up. I think you'd be happy with the 50 series. From what people have told me the hooker with headers is still decently loud but maybe that's on the throttle or even someone who's never heard open headers . In the end you wont know until you get something exactly what you're looking for.

I can say that my Hooker MaxFlow is pretty quiet. With that said, ive had nothing but problems with it as of late. Its been on my car (single 3" in and out) for about a year now and within the last few weeks the seams on the inlet and outlet tube have cracked
And just recently ive been getting a terrible noise from inside of the muffler like theres a piece of metal rattling around. I think the inner mesh has come free...
just my .02

This or the Aerochamber would be your best bet.
Hooker mufflers have been sucking lately. Probably why mine didn't sell when I posted it up.
I bought mine in 07/08 though and it has no issues. So finding a used one would be the best bet...
It is louder than stock but only barely under normal acceleration. WOT it is loud but not super loud like TDs or Corsa or LoudMouth exhaust...
