Default what are you nitrous guys picking up in mph?

Its been brought to my attention that my car doesnt pick up as much mph as it should on gas. On a 150 shot (it doesnt get the whole 150 its more like 125 to the tire) it only picks up 6mph in the 1/8th and picks up 9mph in the 1/4 over my na mphs. Is this low normal or about right?

Combo is :stock bottom end and heads. comp cams 224/236 on a 114 cam and supporting mods. vig ''2800'' stall, 3.42 gears, and just about all the bolt ons i can think of to go on the car.

Also weighed the car it weighs 3570 with me in it. I know with a jockey it'd go faster.

The shot size is determined by the manufacturer and some give the shot size in relation to FWHP and some to RWHP. Remember that nitrous gives more torque than HP.

Have you tuned the spray? Might be blowing through the converter

mine picks up around 16-20mph in the 1/8 on a 150 shot. (vs. an all motor pass)
i very rarely make a motor pass, so i cant get very exact.

Its an nx kit it now has a nitrous outlet plate kit on it but there is no difference in power output between that and the nozzle that use to be on it.

Yes the cars been tuned. Did not think about it blowing through. The converter is pretty loose. It was suppose to be a 2800 vig but its more closer to 3200

NX kits are rated for rwhp. Sounds me to that your blowing through the stall. Does your stall have anti-balloning plates??

That's insane! Obviously your car is NOT optimized for NA..........but it sure as hell is dialed in for spray!!!

Depending on whether a car is stock heads/cam or a good breathing topend, I see from 10 to 13 mph in the 1/4 mile on a 150 shot with the heavier B-bodies. You should see slightly more with a 3500 lb F-body.

I went from 114 to 125 in the 1/4, pretty sure I let off before the traps though.

Do you think the 3.42 gears would be hurting it that bad? Its had a different converter in it and it still did the same. Its still a street car so I dont wanna move the stall up any further than it is now.

My friends who had similarly modded cars said I should be picking up about 10mph. And though 96mph in the 1/8 was pretty low

I went 100mph in the 1/4 with just a BBK intake ,TSP 228R cam and stock everything else, then with a 125 shot went 117mph.

IrocZ,
Your 3.42 gears aren't hurting you on the spray much at all.
Is that 2800 Vig a 9.5" or a 12"? If it's a 12" (I think they make an economy model like that?), get rid of it. The higher-stalled 12" converters are very inefficient when you try to put a bunch of torque through them.

Ok good, I do like the 3.42's on the highway.

No its the 9.5''. I asked for 2800 and this has been a while ago. And its more like 3400 or so. The car runs pretty good on motor for whats done to it.

Also it dyno'd 315rwhp with the converter unlocked on motor and 440rwhp with the converter unlocked on gas. On a 150 shot. The 489 number in my sig is with the converter locked up.

Hmmm.....49 hp locked vs unlocked is worrisome to me, especially if it was supposed to be 2800 stall.
If it's flashing to 3400 on the 150 shot that's ok, but if it's doing it on motor something is wrong with it. ....are you sure you don't have a tranny going south?

Like I said it was supposed to be a 2800 I dont think thats what they gave me. I havent looked in a lil while but i remember it flashing higher on the gas. But thats just going off my digital window switch. If its been going out its been going out for a very very long time. Its run this from day one. And I think maybe with another trans and stall in it. I'll have to go back and do some digging on when I got the new trans and stall but its been at least 4 years.

Vigs are notoriously loose and inefficient in SOME setups. Sounds like that's what you have.

I would look for a better converter.
