its all shots in the dark trying to find out what is wrong with a car over the internet. YOU have to start with the basics.

Get with the car, check the batt, alternator, fuel pressure, starter etc... once you are able to say " I checked the fuel pressure with a gauge and it was ok" or " I verified that the alt is putting out proper power to charge the battery" etc. every single written advice is just a guess..

GL and start checking, let us know!

Ok so update, i dropped the car off with a mechanic because i dont have the time to mess with it. That was last night. This morning i talked with the guy and he said the car started right up no problems at all.... any ideas... i would hate to get the car back and have the problem with my daughter in the car.

Tell the mechanic to try and run it till it shuts down, then trouble shoot it.. Or buy another car.

Replace the fuel pump relay, behind driver kick panel. Mine would do the same damn thing, it would die for no apparent reason, then no fuel pump prime and i changed the relay and so far no problems.

Mechanic said he let it run for 2 hours and it ran fine. Drover it bout 30 minutes it drove fine. And the fuel pressure was at 48 so it couldnt be the relay or i wouldnt have no fuel pressure

It appears that he means the fuel pump relay was an intermittant problem, so if you want to go by "FAD2BLK93's" experience, YES, it COULD be the relay....

If his car's a 95 and it's anything like a Vette then it probably won't be the fuel pump relay. The oil pressure switch will back up the relay to keep the engine running.

Issues like that are usually fuel pump related. Your pump could be overheating. Once cooled it will work again.

I have a buddy that has a 98 trans am and he said the same thing about the fuel pump. Then someone else that use to have a 96 ss impala said he thinks my opti is going out. I have been driving the car now for 2 days and it has ran fine. However, I am thinking about replacing the fuel pump and buying a new opti, what do y'all think?

Replacing the pump can be a REAL PITA, unless you're willing to cut the hatchback floor. The opti replacement isn't quite as big a deal, but a task, nonetheless. The pump will run around $300, as will the opti, for a total of $600.

For that kind of money, I'd be pretty sure, before I replaced one or the other.

I have a 93 and i know they are somewhat different from the rest...but do we have a oil pressure switch that will shut down the fuel pump? When i looked at the pinout i remember the vats system intertwind with the fuel pump, but not the oil pressure.

Well i drove the car this morning on the interstate got off the interstate and now i think its getting stuck in 3rd gear. And whenni pull off from red light i have to give it alot more gas than usual. Is it time for a new torque converter?
