Default Rocker Arm Recall?

Found out that there was a recall on LT4 rocker arms (Crane units I believe). Today a mechanic told me that GM also recalled some of the later LT1 rockers. After some research I haven't found any info. Has anyone here heard anything?

IIRC there was something on the LT4. Never heard of one for LT1s though. Recalls go by vin so call the local dealer with yours and ask.

The LT4 GM(Crane-manufactured) rockers are different from the GM(Crane-manufactured) LT4 HOT CAM rockers. They have the same bodies, but the LT4 rockers originally installed in the Vettes are non-adjustable 8mm stud rockers.

I have been running the non-adjustable 8mm LT4 rockers on my HOT cam since 1998 with hundreds of strip passes and thousands of miles without a failure.

Not to sound like a jackass, but the recall was 15 years ago. If you're simply wanting to know if some rockers that you have may have been within that batch, that's one thing. But if you happen to have some, and want GM to take action on them, you're about 12 years too late.

Secondly, LT1s were not factory equipped with roller rockers, so the Crane recall wouldn't apply, and as far as I know, there were never any recalls for the "regular" rockers. I'm the original owner of a '96 Z-28, and I never received any recall notices for rocker arms...

If you think recalls expire, you are the jackass. I did an engine mount recall on a '66 chevy when I was working at a dealer in 2001.

A recall is for as long as car is running , so if a guy has a low mileage lt4 and sees this is he gonna be a ******* for wanting it fixed before he has a issue ?

There are alot of recalls and TSb that do close and u are **** outta luck. I pulled rockers off a 96 lt4 gran sport motor that came in for a crate engine, i snagged the rockers bought new GM studs torqed them down to 20 ft lb went to the track gained .2 tenths and they have been there for 6 years and countless 6 k runs. But thats just me, i did hear rumors of trunion problems but never saw a case of it. Just my .02

No, he's not going to be an a**hole for wanting his car fixed, before something MAJOR happens. But 15 years after the car was built/sold, is going to be a tough sell to any dealer. Keep in mind, over that time frame, both GM, as well as Crane Cams, went BK then re-organized. I hignly doubt that they'll be honoring any claims from their preious business status.

You couldn't be more wrong. Recalls are opened by vin number and closed by vin number as well. If the recall hasn't been completed on a specific vin number, any dealership in the country is obliged to complete the recall FOREVER AND EVER until every vin number that had that recall attached to it has it complete. As I already posted, I did a recall on a car 35 YEARS after the car in question was manufactured, no questions asked.

Thank u lol , gotta love how people know how a dealership runs or how a car manu runs . It's a recall not a hey swing in and we can fix it if it is this time frame .

Not necessarily for you, but there's a difference between a recall and a TSB. TSB's are only honored for as long as whatever factory warranty is still active. A recall can be indefinite.

LOL... I wonder how far the owner had to go before the dealership caved.

I called a dealership and they checked the VIN. The only recall (air pump) was done few years ago. I assume that the mechanic that told me about the rocker arm issue meant LT4 not LT1.

05HD is right, recalls do not expire. Another example: BMW issued a recall on the front wheel of their motorcycles in about 1980 and if by some chance you have a bike with one of these recalled wheels they will still replace it no charge going on 32 years later.

They didn't even bring the car in for the recall. Their local guy had snapped a carb stud off flush with the intake and told them to take it to the dealer. I was easy-outing the broken stud when one of the old timer mechanics came over and had a look at the car. He noticed it didn't have the engine restraint cable on and said I should check if the recall was still open. I couldn't run the vin because the system was designed with 17 digit numbers in mind but a quick call to GM confirmed the recall was still open and they sent parts to us overnight to take care of it.
