Default Any lt1 guys ever heard of this??

Words from my mechanic...

"The Starter Motor has a very high operating current, that will drain even the heaviest duty battery, fairly quickly, if an engine fails to start"

HAS ANY 1 ELSE EVER HAD THIS PROBLEM? THE BATTERY METER WILL STAY AT THE HALF WAY MARK UNTILL I TURN THE CAR OFF.. ONCE IT'S OFF AND I TRY TO RESTART IT, IT WILL MOST LIKELY CRANK FOR ABOUT 4-5 seconds AND THEN DIES COMPLEATLY TO WERE I NEED A JUMP START.. ANY IDEAS?

If it's stock, Fire the mechanic

Other then that It sounds like
A. you have a starter in need of a rebuild
B. Your Batt or cables are going lame and need to be inspected or replaced
C. The Alt is laying down on you and may need some work or a rebuild.

Pull your Opti plug and see how long your battery last with out starting........

Your mechanic is right in the fact that if you keep on trying to start it and start it with no success it will kill the battery REAL quick.......But I think you are having an issue with it being HARD to start like the battery might have a drawl other then the starter......Probably from that sound system you talked about installing is my guess

Another possibility is the battery is old and no longer taking a good/full charge. Check all the above first.

And yes, that mechanic is an idiot.

Fully charge the battery with a charger. Load test the battery with a carbon pile if it drops below 9.5 volts it is junk. Put amp clamp on positive battery cable leading to the starter motor and crank engine if it draws over 350 amps then you either have bad connections or the starter is junk like the "stupid mechanic" told you already.

Fixed:

Words from my mechanic...

"If the car doesnt start, dont continue to crank it, or you will kill the battery"

Good reason why I let very few people work or diagnose my cars.
