Default Throttle Body Help!

I recently purchased a used arizona speed 58mm throttle body for my Lt1, it works great except while running it sticks at around 2-3k rpm. The intake is still the stock 52mm, all I have to do is flick it to get it to go back to idle but it's really annoying if anyone has any advice it would be much appreciated.

check your floor mats to make sure they arent getting caught. stupid i know, but possible. other than that check the butterflies for binding/hitting something

Did you inspect the TB visually and see if the blades are catching the inside wall? It can be common with aftermarket TB's, some are just slightly off with the machining.

Other than that... my 52mm p&p tb was sticking and it was vacuum related. All I had to do was slightly raise the idle by the set screw and it stopped doing it. Something about plenum pressure was causing a vacuum to keep the blades pulled open.

It could be a few things, but I would check out those 2 things first.

You are wasting your time on a 58mm TB with a STOCK 52mm intake manifold....have you checked if the blades are hitting the manifold itself? Get your intake ported or sell your 58mm TB and get a 52mm unless you have some 500+ hp beast.

Yeah I thought the 58mm tb's would not work on a stock manifold unless you opened the bores in the manifold? Maybe I'm wrong?

^Bingo! OP obviously didn't do his research....if he did he would have known that putting a 58mm TB on a stock manifold is probably costing him HP due to the now interrupted flow of the stock 52mm intake manifold openings....he certainly won't be gaining ANYTHING until the intake manifold gets opened up to accept a 58mm TB.

Yep... you need to open up the manifold holes to 58mm. I believe stock the intake holes are 54mm right?

48mm stock

Edit: thats for the throttle body, not sure how much intake hole differs. They look the same size just by looking at it

Well even if the bores weren't the same size I'm not sure that would cause the throttle to hang but may leave some ponies on the table. Unless the blades could "catch or rub" on the opening of the manifold bores. But I thought the throttle body was deep enough to keep the blades away from the manifold even at WOT. Maybe something else is causing it. Maybe there is carbon build up around the shaft on the backside of the blades making it not rotate smoothly?

The stock manifold is 52mm:
58mm throttle body blades > 52mm intake manifold openings = Stuck Throttle body

Solution: ditch 58mm TB or port your intake manifold to 58mm

I had and edelbrock 58mm tb that stuck on me all the time. The intake was opened to 58mm as well. I tried everything. I sanded the blades, made new ones, you name it I tried it. The shaft actually had play side to side and that was what was hanging it up.

I gave it to a buddy and bought a new BBK one and it has worked perfect. My buddy bolted the old one on his car and it worked perfect for him. It also worked perfect on the car I got it off of as well.

I would try another one to see if the same deal is happening to you. Being that it is not proted shouldn't matter, I doubt the blades are hitting the manifold. If they were you would know it for sure.

If you have the stock throttle body, I would put it back on the car.

TB blades aren't close enough to the manifold to cause binding on it. Not having his intake ported will limit any potential power increase, but it won't hurt him.

AS&M throttle bodies are serviceable. I would take it apart and re-lube the bearings, and inspect the cable for any frays.

If you haven't bored the intake do so. But I had the same problem years ago when my motor was stock what I did was just add a spring to the throttle body just like you would with a carburetor setup. Do that and you will never have to worry about it again. You also get a nice controlled feel to the throttle as well. Ernest
