I by no means am knocking the LT motors I had one and my buddy has a AI 355 and runs awesome... My point it the statement that 460 to the wheels through an unlocked converter and a 9" is easily done is a bit misconceiveing... Can it be done? Yes as pointed out Joe is very close to that mark... Cheaper than a LSX platform is debatable... Bone stock LS3 heads on a bone stock LQ9 with a factory ls3 manifold, rockers throttle body properly cammed makes 550+ to the crank.. And getting better all the time..

Maybe you should reread my post, did I say ANYTHING about ported heads? NO!

So lets try again, Lt1 w/stock heads plus a cam...... Ls1 w/stock heads and cam

I might have misspoke a time or two. I was pointing more to the costs of building an LT1 over and LS1 and the fairly close power level that can be had for around the same amount of money (if someone was starting without either engine.). Not really an LT1 vs. LS1, LS2, LS3, LS4, LS7, LS9, LSA, LQ9 etc etc etc. (the entire LSX family) The advantages of these LS3 heads on an LQ9 block are clearly larger than that of an LS1 head on an LS1 block, given that the LS1 came out the same year as the last LT1 and the LS3 came out over a decade later.

I don't know how plentiful LSX and LTX engines are by others, but 5.3s get $525, 6.0s get $950, and LT1s get $850-$1500 by me (even Vortec 350s pull $1300). They are all pulled the same way, wiring cut, fuel lines cut, accessories stripped, but otherwise complete. So (by me), the LSX engines are cheaper to source and build, but the LT1 cars are 2-3x cheaper to buy.

When I bought my LT1 donor car back at the end of 2007, I got the entire car for $1000. Complete engine, tranny, rear end, exhaust, pcm etc etc etc. It was the norm for what I had found.

The engine in it still runs great, and I'm only now upgrading the bottom end because I want more power.

The bottom end can be redone with better parts best cost effective way I know of is CID 383,385,388,396 with 11:1- possibly 12:1 compression and of course a head and cam combo from LE or AI then of course all the complimenting mods that will support the set up.

The bottom end (in my scenario) will allow for more power than a set of AI heads/cam would. Not because the bottom end itself will be making any power, but because it will allow me to rev my CC306 where it needs to be and also hold up to repeated 150 hits of sauce.

will the stock LQ4 alternator bracket with the alternator on, clear the hood?

i want to keep emissions. so keeping EGR with connections. changing waterpump to ls1 style. want to keep the alternator on the drivers side with the power steering.

does this seem like an option?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/New-LS1-High...sories&vxp=mtr

im sure il be missing some pulleys.

F-body & GTO use pretty much the same stuff.

You need:
Crank Pulley
Car Waterpump
Car Power Steering with Resevoir, Pulley & Brackets
Car Alternator with Brackets.

I did my swap like 4 years ago. Originally was looking for a wrecked LT1 donor car but ended up finding a 99 Z28 with 80k miles for $2k on the forums. Didn't know anything at all about LS1's but bought it anyways. ALL info I learned was off this forum and majority was reading merv's thread. Your going to need to do a ton of research but it really fun and not that bad.

SSmoked1, how's it going? Are you going to make it back to Thompson this year? I was making some good progress with the setup I had last year until I ran into some ignition problems. I have since started my forged bottom end build, installed a nitrous kit and added the LTCC conversion. Won't be able to shell out for AI heads until this time next year unfortunately.

Look forward to seeing you at the track in a couple months.

Hey what's up!!? Sounds badass. How's that thing running with a shot? I always dreamed of the LTCC when I had an LT1 lol. I plan on spending a lot more time at the track this year. I have a 12 bolt with 4.11's/full suspension waiting for a warm day to install. I was always scared of killing the 10 bolt.
