Sell my TA to go ls1?
I have a 1995 TA m6 w/ 3.42s that has 76.5k miles on it. I am the second owner, it is loaded besides leather, and it runs/drives great. Smoothest f-body I have owned so far.
I had a LS1 once upon a time...and I have missed it ever since. I am strongly debating on selling my TA ($5800) and throwing in a few hundred to find a LS1. Most LS1s in that price range have ~120k miles on them and are autos. I am fine with the auto, but at 120k I'm sure the 4l60e will be on its way out.
My TA already has a new clutch/slave/master, opti, brakes, ect ect. Part of me wants to go ls1 again and the other part hates getting another used car.

to go thru all the low ballers, and PITA of selling a decent car, to buy a ragged ls1 isnt sound to me. you know the ls1 is gonna be a money pit of sorts, take the same cake and put it in your lt1 and renew the smiles

I agree with Stuart most cars are ragged out anyway and if they say it isn't I still don't believe plus you might be buying into problems he probably wont mention to you. And you know your lt1 is sound and good running I wouldn't I would just work on it more to make ut quicker for your needs and worst case do a ls1 swap probably come out cheaper too and you know what's in it

Even most ls1s are ragged out by now, and if you do find a nice one they will want a fortune for it.
If you miss your ls1 then go for it, but keep in mind it may cost more then you expect to get a reliable, clean, good running car. A few hundred on top of 6k probably wont do it.

Don't sell your lt1 for a ls1 unless you're ready to start over. You're the 2nd owner of your car and it's got low mileage... Trying to find a ls1 like that is going to be expensive and you still won't know what you're getting into...

Yea, your right. I really don't feel like starting over again. Might as well just throw a cam and headers on the LT1. I don't race much anymore, but at least it would sound sick.

I was thinking about doing the same thing. And I just got my car. But in the short time I've had my 95 I've learned a lot about the car and things I missed when I first bought it. I would had to start over again. And as much as I like the ls1 cars, I know my car is paid off and I know what I'm working with

I sold my 2002 Formula because I was paying $200 a month on it. After I bought a 120k house I decided I didn't want car payments anymore. I swore off F-bodies completely...lo and behold I found this 95 TA, then I paid cash and drove it home

Do you want to get better gas mileage, nicer interior, updated exterior styling, more power, and better reliability? Or do you want to keep your cheese wedge shaped trans am with a boat anchor motor and stay in the black hole of an lt1 section this site has?
I pick the latter. I loves my LT1. I would hope you wouldnt swap to an LSX in that low mileage clean car.

if you can come up with a decent amount of money to get something nice than i would, my buddy had a killer lt camaro, 383 with a procharger car was very fast, lts can be fast as well it just takes a lil more work, or swap a ls in your lt, in the end you know what you want to do,
