Too awesome for words!

Looks like a few things have to be relocated for this project. The fuel lines, the hose to the brake booster, etc.

Looks like any ram air intake setup would have to be scrapped now that the pulley is in the way.

What's the ETA on getting it running?

I doubt there's room for an intercooler with how short the base is.

Thats not so bad at all, depending on the cost of the new manifold and anything you have to change for the fuel rail setup.

I am dying for an ETA on this thing

I do some fab work myself, about to start fab work on my own Whipple 2.9. Credit goes to BBK though for sparking the interest. I will start another thead soon.

Whipples are far more efficient then a centrifugal or roots blower, so they dont run as hot and can run more boost without an intercooler. I'm no pro, but I bet you can get a surprising amount of boost out of a Meth injected whipple, without any intercooler.

IIRC the OP is going for 650-750 to the wheels with a Snow Meth kit and no intercooler. That is 750-800+ hp at the crank, not too shabby for not having an intercooler! Especially considering what a flat broad tq curve it will have with that off-idle boost.

While IMO a turbo would still be the way to go for a drag only car, IMO a Whipple is a street/strip cars dream...

It looks like the mustang kits for a similar whipple blower and manifold come in near 3.5k
Depending on timeline im seriously considering selling my procharger to swap to one of these.

When building a motor, is there anything you would consider different in an engine build between a whipple and a centri, piston wise or internals?

I am designing a new carbon fiber Ram air filter box with the tube exiting at the corner inline with the valve cover. The stock ram air box will still fit but modifications to the exit port would be needed. I have a ram air hood but am showing that the configuration fits under the stock hood and will draw air from the corner fender filter as usual. There is less restriction on the ram air setup and will most likely yield higher HP. I plan to test both the see the difference. There are some plumbing changes but nothing serious and yes the throttle cable will need to be changed from the supplied kit. Fuel lines should be upgrade depending on Hp expectations. My setup is 10 AN feed, 8 AN return.
I'm expecting mid May for Dyno Time! Lots of documenting to do yet! Manuals ETC.

There is no way when you add it up that this kit could cost less than $10,000. There is too much Engineering, Time, and Materials for it to be any less than that.

How close is that to the cowl, do you think you could remove the plastic/weather stripping and take another picture? Also, does anyone know the height distance between where the actual metal cowl starts to where it meets the glass of the windshield?

Wondering if on a race build you might be able to notch the cowl up to the glass and squeeze an intercooler in there . The whipple fancy-*** intercooler for up to 30# of boost is only 2.5" tall, so you might be able to shoehorn it in if you cut out the center of the cowl. Looks like they can make custom intercoolers 1/2" less @ 2" tall but of course with a sacrifice for cooling. Either way it probably wouldn't be something for the street, but maybe possible for a race car?

Downside? The damn intercooler is like 2800 bucks, thats more then the whipple itself wtf???

Looking at it again, I would say its definitely possible to squeeze an intercooler in there with enough determination, but probably not feasible for most people. Looks like you would only need to get another inch or so clearance.

Whipple says their intercooler adds 2" to the top of the supercharger. Between cutting the cowl and worse case scenerio running dropped motor mounts I'm sure it can be done. Hell, you could probably keep your wipers and everything if you were stubborn enough, but an aftermarket hood would be a must. The stock hood rakes down way too far and would hit the pulley if it was any higher.

Someone with deep pockets needs to work out a deal for one of the prototypes and make that happen!

I DEMAND A WHIPPLE BLOWN FORGED 383 WITH 20+ LBS OF INTERCOOLED GOODNESS!!! SOMEONE MAKE IT HAPPEN.
(getting your car to hook all that off idle torque will be your own problem)
