Default underdrive pulley and balancer??

Alright guys, I have a 97 z28. It's had this vibration ever since I bought it. It has an under drive crank pulley so I took the balancer off and poof vibration is gone. My question is it necessary to have the balanced on there at all? This is strictly my daily driver, might see the track a couple off times just so I can get an idea of how fast it actually is compared to others. And if I do need to replace the balancer, who would be cheapest? Also if anyone has one for sale shoot me a pm. Thanks. -Kyle

yes you need to run it. i would not look for the cheapest one you can find. you get what you pay for.

Don't run it without the balancer. Another stock one would be the cheapest way to go.

Make sure the arrows on the hub and on the balancer are lined up, when they put on the underdrive pulley maybe they put the balancer back on wrong.

Thanks guys. It's for sure messed up because the outside of the balanced will turn without the inside part moving. Like when it was on the car I could rotate the outside of it without it turning the crank. And just if y'all were wondering, I haven't been driving with it off, I just started it for a bit to see if the vibration stopped

I would get a new balancer and leave the underdrive off.
If you think the underdrive is worthwhile I think Jegs and ASP both sell reasonably priced underdrive dampers which would reduce weight and offer more potential gain than the piggyback crap.

Yeah, I've looked into that, it's only on there because I bought it like that.

It's not a balancer. It's a damper

Its to reduce harmonics from the crankshaft. These harmonics will destroy the engine. Think about something that vibrates it will get worse and worse then finally boom.

Ya I ran the underdrive set for a min. Didn't like that my amps sat in the yellow at lights. So I just ran the crank.....all the way til I fried my alt. So I went back to stock. Sure seemed like it helped off the line. But track times don't lie. Your not missing much. But that's me.
