Default Dual 2 1/2 inch or 3?!?!

I have a full bolt on motor with 3.73 gears. Right one have a y pipe, but have a big hole in it and have wanted to dual it anyways... I plan on motor work soon so i know 3 inch will be the best. I def don't wanna oversize it but im not too worried about losing torque between my gears and 6 speed think i will be fine. Anyways, wanted to get your thoughts, THANKS!

I hae had 2.5'' duals w/ X-pipe for a few years and see absolutely no reason to do 3" without having a LARGE cam along with fully ported heads. unless you are using a supercharger 3'' is overkill.......jmo

You should go dual 2.5". Dual 2.5 will easily support what you can do with head cam LT1's.

I plan on getting a LT1 hopefully sooner than later stripping it to the block and building it up as a 383 so 3 will be fine with that but i don't know how long thats gonna be. I just don't wanna drag this motor down in the mean time with my stock internals. But also don't wanna have to mess with my exhaust again

Before i did the cam work to the car I had complete stock motor with just a tune headers and 3inch true duels and it ran 13.6 on street tire believe me you wont hurt anything running 3 inch on stock set up

I went with 2.5" I think I would have had a hard time tucking up 3" with the way I routed my pipes.

I would recommend 2.5" setup.

I'm running 3" x-pipe to dual 3" muffler and 3" inch tail pipes, it sounds awesome and makes good topend power. But, 3" setup sucks for daily driving very little ground clearance. It scrapes on speed bumps, steep driveways, and going fast on slopey roads.

Do a hybrid if you can. Track rules you race at may play a factor in this and local laws on the street but some tracks require a "muffler" of some sort. Long tubes to 3" pipe to 3" E-cutouts reduced then after cut out to 2 1/2 out the back. much easier to rout and still get the free flow at the track but should be nice and bearable on the street depending on what muffler you run. I liked the system one of the members did with the dynomax crossflow muffler out back in the stock location with dual duals. cant rember who did it though. It was a convertible camaro I think.

2.5 " is WAY MORE than enough and will support a ton of HP. Unless you plan on making more than 5-600rwhp 3" is overkill and will bring the issue of axle clearance... Most shops can't handle getting it to clear even with the panhard relocation, which lowers it down with adverse effects...

3 inch either dumped or under the axle. if you have a shop that remotely knows what they are doing you will be fine

The easiest to do set up I have seen replaced the back half of the ORYP and the intermediate pipe with a narrow X, dual 3" bullets, a pair of cut-outs, and a short Magnaflow type Y-merge. It had the cut-outs positioned to flow straight back if uncapped while the forked off side turned up to go over the axle, into the Y-merge. The Y-merge was welded to the single 3" over the axle pipe and from there back it was a normal catback. This system had no loss in ground clearance and when un-capped would give all the flow of any 3" true duals. Assuming you already have a decent 3" catback and an off road Y-pipe, you could buy the parts to build this for about $100.

I am probably going 2 1/2, i was under the impression i needed the pan hardrod relocation to run dual pipes even 2/12 inch duals? Also what do you mean does it lower the actual pan hardrod? In a bad way?

Quick Reply: Dual 2 1/2 inch or 3?!?!
