Default Need Cam Help!

Hey guys. Im looking to put a cam in my LT1, with i pulled out of my 94 camaro to rebuild. Does anyone know which cams i could use that wouldn't require may other upgrades? Im running on a tight budget, so i don't want to spend much. Does any one know how good the CC304 or CC305 cams are? And what would they require to run properly? Thanks

To do a cam swap properly you need to establish a budget of at least $1000. If you've got that to spend then we can talk further.

I've ran the hotcam and it was a very nice little street cam. You could run it with stock rockers and just change to some cheap howards or lt4 springs. Get a mail order tune.

Here's the thing about tight budgets and working on cars. Take what you think it's going to cost and add a 30-40% buffer just incase for extra parts replacement, stuff you break on accident, etc... Like said above plan to spend around $1000 to do this right. I wouldn't even attempt it unless you've got the funds. Trying to stay within a budget can easily lead to jimmy rigging and poor maintenance.

I'm on a tight budget cause i wasn't expecting to be rebuilding my engine. But i was hoping that i could do something to add some power while i had the engine out and apart. If not a cam, any other opinions on cheap/safe upgrades? I was thinking about porting my heads a little bit...stupid idea? I appreciate the help guys

I had to do the valves on my car and I wanted to do a cam swap well I didn't have the money so it got put back together stock. Its not that hard to tear it back apart. Specially after you do it a couple times.

if those are your only 2 options id run the cc305... i got the 304 and its alright. works great to daily drive. its not very noticable at all but that also means there isnt much horsepower to be gained... its a pretty weak cam to be putting in if your going to spend the money on it. If i was you i would look at a cc305 or maybe a cc502 or 503

Self-porting as a novice usually does more harm than good, not to mention the gains you'd see even if done right would be minimal on the stock cam.

I guess it depends on what is considered minimal gains. I picked up 5mph through the traps with done right ported heads. Only thing different was Edelbrock shorties into the stock exhaust with cats in place. I dunno...

I just don't see ported heads on an otherwise stock engine providing gains proportional to the investment. Meh.

IMO it depends on what the person wants. If they want stock behavior, like I did since I was into street racing at the time, it's a fantastic investment. I even bead blasted the powder coating off the LT4 because at the time everyone thought LT4 was like ZR1 is today. Like Uncle Johnny Lingenfelter did, I still believe well ported heads alone will outperform any cam on stock heads.
