The reality is you dont do it for the power unless you dont care about spending the money. Ive seen a few before and results making up a litte more power which is a bonus. Ive been through many opti's in the ownership of my car along with icm, coil, ignition switch issues, etc. I did it because ive dumped a tone of cash into my ride and i want to have the thought in the back of my head is it going to start missing or make it through a cruise. This is a WAY more reliable setup and now running through obd2 i can monitor what cylinder is missing arcing etc and coils are much cheaper and less work to replace than an opti. Tunning options are wide open as lt1 tuners are basically extinct where i live. The faster pcm with more features makes it better for dialing in tunes to get the most efficient running engine you can get.
The swap was very straight forward to do and the harness wasnt very hard to build which saved me alot of cash too. Had my local tuner set in a startup tune and as you see it fired up first try and has since been running decent even on the current tune. Hope to have it back in the next few weeks with some results!

I already have a good idea its going to pick up some power over my old numbers. I had an issue with it not wanting to pull past 6k, we hope to solve that before it hits the dyno. One dyno in particular that was a perfectly running 388 stroker eith ported heads and xfi 280 cam made 390rwhp before and 408rwhp after the swap. Im sure something was up with his tune but 18rwhp is pretty substantial from a working opti setup.

More times than not, when you're doing the 24x conversion, you're replacing an opti with a worn cap, or some old plug wires, or you coil is getting a little tired, and so on. Think about it, the newest of our cars is 15 years old, and in my case, my coil is factory with 178K miles, the opti and cap have 50K miles on it, plugs and wires have 35K miles on it, so in my case, I may replenish some horsepower.
Not to mention, a lot of guys are going from a mail order tune, to legit dyno/street tunes.
The swap itself may not give you power, but the tune just might.

I haven't seen anything on where the oil pressure sensor wire goes I was told it should connect to a light brown wire in the harness that goes through the firewall to connect directly to the oil pressure gauge. Is this where you connected that sensor or did I miss somethin and it goes in the pcm?

Not to steal the thread but I just finished my 24x build and was wondering if anyone could me how to make the tach work on my 96 cluster. I have HP tuners but can't seem to figure out how to make it work, its just dead when I fire it up. Every other gauge works but not the tach

That is correct the oil level is a brown wire and goes into LS1 Blue 70.
As for the your question about your tach wire. Do you have it wired up properly from LT1 Red 13 to LS1 Red 10? Its a single White Wire and my guess is if you do not have it wired properly that you have a connection problem or its damaged. Did you use a different year harness for the swap into your 96? All years have differences between that may cause this issue.

I am not familiar with the ls1 harness so your going to have to do some digging and make sure the schematics are right. Sorry i cant answer your problem entirely.
The 0411 pcm can be found in alot of 99+ ls engines from cars to trucks and year doesnt matter. If your engine is a 97 it would have the correct timing cover unless you went to an older one?
