Default Performance ICM?

Is there a performance ignition control module for lt1 cars? i believe mine is going bad or has went bad and if its possible to upgrade, id like to. Ive tried some looking around and cant seem to find much other than people trying to figure out whats wrong with theirs. I have upgraded most of my ignition system and would hate to leave this little guy behind.

Thanks, Kegan

Pretty sure there isn't a "performance" ICM.

All the ICM does is tell the coil when to fire.

Now they do make "performance" coils that put out a higher voltage with each firing.

Refrain from using an auto parts store ICM and go with AC Delco.

^ What he said.

I try to stick to AC Delco stuff. You will obviously pay more but it will last.

AC Delco it is then. i have an msd coil on the car along with msd wires and a 6al box and fresh plugs already. im still running a stock style opti that im sure will go at anytime so im going to run the hell out of it till it does. An msd opti will be in the works soon even if my current opti survives the abuse. the peace of mind will be worth the money, esp when running a multispark setup.

I bought my car with an MSD opti that was replaced like 5000 miles before I got it. Test drove the car 3 times before buying. Got home, next day the car wouldn't start. Replaced the Opti with a AC Delco and has worked ever since. That was over 10000 miles ago.

interesting, on the msd site they have all this big talk of it being an upgraded more reliable piece compared to the factory design so i dont understand why people have bad luck with them. but then again is it possible you got the best end of one brand and the worst of the other? im sure in some cases its the other way around. there is a pretty wide price gap in the 2 also, that may end up being my deciding factor lol

I just run a AC Delco before its factory equipment. MSD might work great for some people. I've heard people say the Chandler Motorsports works great. I tried it because of the price and it didn't work. Got the AC Delco and fired right up.

So to each his own.

Agreed. im just dreading that dent in the wallet plus the install isnt pleasant from what ive seen and heard so im gonna have a shop do it because id rather not mess with getting a distributor dialed in. itll be the first time ive had to take it to a shop for a mod thus far so itll be kinda saddening lol. then ill have to start saying ive done "almost" all the work myself lol

Um read the instructions all you do is put the pin in the correct hole for the vented models and bolt it in. Simple. They will probably charge you hundreds for doing it. Cause a lot of the front of the engine needs to come off.

really? you dont have to adjust it or anything? cause if it just slips in and bolts right up i dont care to tackle it. Thus far ive rebuilt, repaired and installed headers, made my own Y pipe, wired up my ignition box, trouble shooted and fixed at least 4 different missfire problems and all that was jobs i was a little intimidated by but came out great in the end. if replacing the opti is that straight forward then bring it on. and yes ive seen all the junk in front of it, i can understand why it would be a pain to replace as far as that goes

Nope it can install the wrong way if you slip the cam dowel into the wrong spot. But all you do is align the optispark with the dowel in the correct hole and bolt it on. Done.
