i have a 96 trans am lt1 and recently i put a comp cam 503 in it and i just put the motor back in the car and now it just cranks but it wont fire. it sound like it wants to but it donesnt. something i can start it the let the key go and it feels like it wants to start but it just dies. any idea on what it could be. the computer is not tune yet and it just has headers only right now waiting on the exhaust and going to send the computer in soon to get tune. but any ideas would help to try to get it started?

Did you adjust the valve lash? Also check that the distributor is in and seated correctly. Sometimes it doesn't drop in correctly. You have to watch the way it slips in. It can be slightly off.

The car starts a little bit when my foot is on the gas so could it be a fuel issue?

Yeah, I say check where you have the wires routed. Also, see how much fuel pressure you have.

I check the wire and they are right and the fuel injector are good and all but I did take off the rotor and distributed apart and the rotor look a little burnt up. Couldn't that be the problem?

Are your heads ported or stock? What about your intake? My car when its cold cranks for a long time and I have to pump the pedal a little to get it started and it idles a little rough for about 5 seconds and smooths out. My heads are gasket matched, not fully ported. A few people have said that if your cammed with stock heads, it may be a little harder to start.

On a side note for the future, its really not smart to take a stock motor, throw a cam in it and call it a day. For it to perform as best as possible and run good, you want the supporting mods for it. Tune, exhaust, ported intake and heads, 1.6 rockers, bigger fuel injectors, fuel pump, throttle body, better plugs, wires, and opti, etc. So many things need to be done for it to run tip top if it is cammed.

My heads are stock but I am going to get tune after the engine runs and ordering exhaust but the valve train has been upgraded for the cam and is new. And I was told that I can run with it on stock injectors. But if I give it gas then it runs at like 100 rpm then it will die if my foot is off the gas. Any more ideas?
