Default 94 z28 turning off

my car started turning off the other day, but would turn right back on and motor wise is running fine meaning its not stumbling or misfiring when it turns off it justs turns off like if i'd turn the key backwards or something. so i checked the basics fuel pressure, and spark but everything was good, wanted to check for codes but dont have a scanner. But then yesterday went to go work on it and it turned on for about 6 seconds and then turned off and then did not want to turn back on????

that was the first thing i checked and they were ok and i had just put a new battery in, so then i thought the alternator was going out so i replaced that and it did the same thing, i replaced it because when i would turn on my lights, and a/c my voltage would drop really low maybe to about 10 volts or less into the red part whatever voltage that is

When the car turns off and doesn't want to turn back on, when you try to turn it back on does it make a click sound and then nothing happens?

Also, since you replaced the alternator, now when you turn the light on and a/c does the voltage still drop low?

When does it turn off? Like are you driving around when it dies, hard acceleration, braking, idling, etc. Details! lol

at first it was just turning off once or twice a week did that for like two weeks, then on the third week i started it to go from work and noticed it running really ruff for about a minute which has never happened, got half way to my house it turned off had problems starting it but it started and i got it home. i let it sit for a whole day went back the next day and it started, but it would just turn off whenever at a stop sign, parked out side my house, driving it down the road like at 3000 rpms!!!! if its the first crank of the day it will start, but after that it will just crank

It isn't vats. If it was VATS, fuel pump wouldn't prime and the engine wouldn't crank. Probably Opti, but before you jump to any repairs, I'd check ohms on the ECT, check the ICM, Coil, and check for voltage and grounds on the ICM and OPTI connectors, plugs and wires. Spark and fuel. If you can smell fuel when you crank, probably no spark.

Clogged cats would be more a loss of power, wouldn't start at all after a while.

Try getting it to run long enough to see how much voltage drop you have on the batter. If it is dropping low still, check the signal wire going into the alternator to see if you have a full connection. I had it where it would intermittently charge so I started to wiggle wires and I shook the signal wire and I was able to see the meter go from 9-10 volts back up to 13-14 volts and vice versa. Also, check your grounds on the head, battery, body, everywhere. Loose grounds can give headaches!
