97 30th Anniversary Z28 (the build) PICS and story
So I picked up this Camaro August last year... I really wanted it because it was a real Anniversary Camaro. As you guys may know, real anniversary cars have the Z4C RPO code which only about 3000 were built as Z28 models with this Arctic white exterior with Hugger Orange stripes with White leather interior.
Well, It wasn't in the best shape when I got it. Body work was needed with dings all around. Shortly after I took it home, it turns out the "low oil pressure" warning was more than the sensor which the previous owner thought it was.
Previous owner had the motor bored .040 over with a mild 304 comp cam (if im not mistaken) and had the tranny rebuilt.
Heres how the car was when I picked it up.
Took the car to Xessive in Edinburg, TX where Noe identified what he thought was in fact low oil characteristics. He went ahead and removed the motor and they dropped it off to Mcallen Motor mart where the rest of the motor was torn apart for inspection.
Turns out the previous owner had put a high volume oil pump on the stock pan. After much research, it appears that the pump was running dry and that caused the crank and cam bearing to burn out!! Block was inspected and it was rebuilt by Mcallen Motor Mart with new oil pump, crank and cam bearings, rings. Rotating assembly was balanced and put back together.
Xessive (Noe) assembled the rest of the motor along with new 1.6 Rockers from comp cams while I ordered a new PCM from PCM for Less with the updated tune. They also added 3.73 gears to help since it was running on stock 2.73! from the factory. (What a difference that made)
So that part was done, brought it back home. I contacted BMR suspensions and ordered their Level 2 package which consists of Front and rear sway bars, shocks/struts, springs 1.25" lower, rear control arms with relocation brackets and sub frame connectors (which havent been installed yet)
My brother and I installed this stuff.
Also matched it up with Brake Motive rotors and pads!
Gave it the rustoleum paint treatment to the spindle and upper control arm.
Found a set of OEM SS wheels from a 98 and went with those.
So now my car was running great, and handled like no other F-Body I had ever driven. But it looked pretty bad, inside and out.
Dash and interior leathers were in bad shape... but not for long.
Paint/Body done
Leather interior done
and finally the new Hugger Orange stripes done!!!
This is how it sits now....
Its been a long road but its been great. My Camaro looks and rides GREAT!!
Sorry about the long thread here guys, just wanted to share my build!!!
Enjoy!

Oh, man! The treatment of your poor 30th Anniversary Z-28 by its pervious owner is horrific sacrilege, dude!
I'm glad that you bought the car and then devoted yourself to restoring it to the magnificent level of quality that you did. Your car looks amazing, and your love and concern for it are to be commended!
Way to go, man!

Thanks for the comments guys, I still need to rebuild the 97 trans. Turns out that took a dump too.
Im running my old 94 trans that sat for about 4 years. It feels a bit weak but its holding up well.

Went 13.65, im loosing a lot at the bottom with a 1.95ish 60 foot.
It has a 2500 stall which i know is mild but it should be quicker with the mods. Im thinking its the 94 transmission im running it on. It was sitting for about 4 years and it was rebuilt that long ago.
I had to splice the 97 wires for it to plug in to the 94 sockets. That also might be an issue.
Im gonna have the original rebuilt and then gonna use good crimp plugs to put back the original plugs for the transmission. Also looking into a 3-3200 stall.

This was the car that got my dad and I into Fbodys. My dads friend has low mile convertible version that we got to use on every fathers day. We were planning to buy the car from him but times got rough for him and we werent ready to buy when had to get rid of it. Story short was we ended up finding something that following year for what we could afford and thats how we got our 95 TA.
