Didn't just let it sit and idle, did you? Hope not, you usually burnish the rings doing that. When that happens, they never seal up like they should, and never make the power they should. More power in ring seal (not talking about burning oil or not) than in choosing a "custom cam" over one off the shelf. Don't let it idle while you marvel at how cool your new cam sounds. Go drive it. Hard, on the expressway. Run it up past 5000 WOT, let it coast back down, repeat about ten times.

I'm sure you already know this, but perhaps some don't- coolant heats up/cools down much faster than oil. If your temp gauge is working then your oil really isn't warm enough to be taking the engine to high RPM. Not a sermon. Just a thought.

I hope it didn't sit around and idle twenty minutes first. If it did, it likely won't matter how you try to break it in afterwards.

Do not ever let your car sit and idle for 20 minutes unless your looking to kiss your ring seal goodby.

That is for everybody. Especially a new engine. Bad idea for any engine you want to make power and be fast.

But, this is his comment that made me want to explain this to you guys:

Nah, man. It's perfectly acceptable to rev an engine with cold oil.
