The same stock one that came new on the car. Depends on what CR you are running as to whether or not you need an HD starter.

Tilton 54-40001

Will spin a high compression 500+ cubic inch big block or an large engine with a blower.

It spins my LT1 very easily.

I've tried 1/2 a dozen other starters and they have all needed trimming or various other flaws. Even the Jegs hi-torque mini-starter failed on me. Every weekend I go racing I probably have to start the car 30 times and usually for a few seconds to get it to fire on alcohol.

Factory starter for a 96 LT1 vette, cheaper than Fbody one and smaller. Local parts store should stock it and it retains the lifetime warranty locally.

If you are trying to replace your starter and don't need anything special, just get a starter for an LT4 corvette. It's smaller, stronger, sounds better and it's even cheaper than a replacement LT1 starter.
