Default missing opsu, wtf is this thing? (pics)

soo.. i know i probably shouldve looked into this sooner but, since i bought my car in february my oil pressure has always been maxed out..

oil pressure switch right?

i bought a new one and climbed under the car to find...

evidently the previeous owner decided a bolt would work better when he installed the LTs

now im looking for the plug.. and oh.. i think this is it.. wtf is this?

never mind the caked on concrete powder.. hit a construction zone on the way home

but anyway
this thing is rubber around the outside, wrapped in heat resistant tape with
one tan-ish colored wire running to it that (not positive) i think is my opsu wire

and its zip tied to the oil level sensor..

im thinking maybe a dummy to keep from throwing a code? if obd1 even throws a code for that.. idk what to make of this

it has what looks like a plastic button on one end

anyone have any ideas here?

I'm going to say the bolt is a "plug" for the OPSU and the big rubber thing IS your OPSU.

Curious how the bolt got in there because the threads there are 1/4" NPT (pipe).

If the bolt is holding I would NOT remove it unless you are prepared to chase the threads.

better yet, because im unsure and research has lead me nowhere, is this thing even attatched to the opsu wire?

if not, i cant find any loose wireing.. anyone know where it would be hiding?

btw, this is an early 94 for car, so the opsu is positioned over the oil filter as in the 93's

Well I finnally took care of this, turns out you were right, that was my old opsu broken in half and wrapped in protective rubber

I was able to install a 1/4" elbo and a 2" nipple as I've read somewhere on here before
Needless to say, I've got oil pressure!

Hot idle somewhere in the 35-38 range

Yeah I figured that out by simply cutting the rubber jacket off and doing away with it all together.. I just wasn't sure as no research came up with that rubber jacket even being there

All good now though

I don't see a problem with his numbers.

That's the first time I have seen OP that high at hot idle. The ones I have seen average 20 at idle when hot. Of course I'm not saying having OP that high at idle is a bad thing (although if it stayed 80+ while cruising I would say that would be a concern)

More than half throttle and it levels out at about 75.. But yes, completely warm idle is about 35.. Frankly I'm pretty happy with that, kind of leads me to believe there may have been a little work done to the short block.

Could just be wishful thinking but that's some decent pressure for a 160k car

Also, while hooking up my new opsu, I decided I'd check the stamping on the block and trans

Both deffinately begin with "1"
Chevy?
Pontiacs code should begin with 2..

Just strikes up some curiosity
