Default Temp. for fans to come on?

I had the car at idle the other day to see how high the gauge would get before the fans would kick on... it went all the way up to the line before the red... is this normal? I hate the way these LT1's run on temperature.. do the LS1's do the same? Like if i pull in a parking lot and am riding around for a few min the temp will rise up that high and then as soon as i get back out on the road and the air starts getting to it again it'll go back down... It has a 180 degree thermostat.... I just dont like that it rises so high. Thanks for any help!

Mine did that as well. If i let it idle for a while it would climp way up there before they came on but as soon i start going it would go down. When i bought the car, it had a manual fan switch already so i used that at times but it got annoying having to turn it on and off and stuff. I got the basic tune from lt1pcmtuning that was like $80 to delete some codes and he also changed the fan turn on temps. Now it never goes over half, usually stays around 190. I have the 180 t stat too. I never have to worry about it overheating.

I dont think the LS1's have this problem, im pretty sure they have different fan turn on temp settings from the factory.

LT1s are designed to run hot from the factory.

Are the fans coming on around 227-235 degrees?

The 180-degree thermostat you claim to have is stock. Adding a lower temperature thermostat also won't help very much with the temps by itself.

Now if the fans weren't coming on at all while driving down the highway then eventually it would start to run hot correct?

No, fans don't cool the car while it's moving the air flow does. They run hot, the best thing to do is 160 tstat plus a tune for the fans to come on sooner for those idle/ low speed conditions. It's what I just did for mine.

Where is the best place to get the tune for the fans to kick on earlier?

My 93 had a removable chip so will I just have to get a different chip or will I still be able to use that tuner?
