Took the car out for a spin today and my brother said with a chuckle "This car really puts you right in the experience." It is loud and hot in there now, maybe getting rid of the firewall insulation was a bad idea lol. But I only had the drivers window down and it is a little warm today (83*). Temp didn't go over 170*, the cooling fan worked, and I only lost a power steering belt. Overall I'm impressed that everything works and it is really a driver car now, you can hear everything

Today I went to the local hardware store and got some spacers for the power steering pump that are a little longer than the old ones. Came home and tore the pump off and removed the bracket to find that the lower bolt was loose. Got the new spacers installed and it lines up with the crank pulley better now, but I found that the power steering pump and the crank are now at different angles. So I need to tear it all back apart and add a shim on the bottom of the PS bracket to bring everything back in line. So I hopefully discovered why I keep tossing the belt off it

Not the best pics and the car is dirty from sitting all winter, but I had to snap some quick pics after I pulled it out of the garage for the first time this year I hope to get some professional pics taken this summer by a friend of mine

Had a fun trip today, put about 75 miles on it and I lost 2 trans crossmember bolts and the nut for the trans mount. Luckily I made it to Autozone and used a jack from their parts running cars and some overpriced hardware from them. $10 later and everything actually tightened down I made it home without an issue. I guess I overlooked some hardware when I started to pull the trans and forgot to tighten everything back up.
I didn't think that the shift light was working so I turned it down to 5500 RPMs and found out that the factory tach is WAY off. When the light flashes at 5500 rpms the tach is showing 6500 rpms.

Figured I would add this years mods to this old thread instead of making a new one.
I took it kind of easy this year and am concentrating on finishing the suspension. I started by ordering a Hellwig hollow 35mm front sway bar to match the rear bar, Baer bump steer kit, Viking coilovers with 150 lb springs, and some exhaust mods to try to kill the rap I get at 2500 rpms and fix some of the leaks I have developed.
So here we go, Hellwig sway bar vs WS6 sway bar, only a minor difference....
Then this box from UMI showed up.....
Assembly begins, I used factory foam VW bump stops....
And of course nothing can go without a problem, the Hellwig rear sway bar links were too fat and were hitting on the newly installed coilovers....
Installed
After this was all completed I put the car back down on the ground to start adjusting the ride height and checking for clearance on everything. Only interference is the front tires on the sway bar at full lock, but they barely touch and that's with 315s so no worries here. But I came into another problem that needs to be addressed, with the rear wheel arch at 27.25" and the front is at 26.5" the rear coilovers are only showing ~30% of the shaft and it should be ~60%, I don't have any room to go higher so the next option is a dropped lower coilover mount, I have found a few options, but time will tell what direction I go with.
Now back to the front, after the rear was finished up I decided to take the Edelbrock coilovers off of the front to clean and lube the threads so I could actually turn the adjusters. I got everything cleaned up and the driver side went together great, the passenger side on the other hand fought me for an hour or so. The new rubber mount must have been formed crooked and I had to loosen every bolt on the top side and pry the shock back into place. So that leads me to my next step....This weekend I'm planning on modifying the Edelbrock IAS front coilovers and removing the stock rubber bushing and replacing them with these....
So as soon as my brother is finished with a motor swap for a buddy I plan on taking my car out to make the exhaust changes and square up the rear suspension, build the new front upper mounts, and realign the car. I have a few other things planned too, but I will see how everything else goes

So far so good on the coilovers. I only have 200 miles on them, but they are WAY nicer than my old setup, and I'm still playing with the settings. They are a lot smoother than the IAS shocks IMO

I added a bullet muffler in the I-pipe and it killed some rap that I was getting at 2500 rpms, I also v banded the headers and added a flex coupler where I had a v band before to gain a little ground clearance and fix an exhaust leak. At idle the car is a lot deeper sounding, but at cruising speed its quiet and it really opens up at WOT. It finally sounds how I want it to, it only took me 6 tries I'll try to get a cold start-up clip similar to the above one for a comparison in the next few days

I keep saying that I'm going to put it on the local scale but never think of it when I'm driving the car. I'd say that I have removed 600 lbs so far.
I ordered some lightweight carpet and some snap fasteners. I have a couple of ideas, original idea was just to make a cover to hide the hole in the carpet under the center console and mount the shift boot to it that way everything can be removed quickly. My brother came up with a different idea that will get rid of all of my carpet but keep the driver and passenger area covered as well as the tunnel/shifter area. I ordered enough carpet that I can do both ideas. but I don't know if I'm ready to commit to removing almost all of my interior at this point. But at the same time its probably almost 40 lbs worth of junk
