93 z28 leaking oil
I have noticed a good sized puddle under my car that I recently purchased. At first i thought that it was from my trans or hydraulics since i also noticed a problem while shifting into second but that's another issue. Uppon closer inspection it looks as if its leaking from somewhere behind the block. Just below where the last spark plug is on the drivers side of the car. What would leak back there? Does anyone have any ideas on what I could check? I'm hoping for a simple cheap fix since I have a feeling that the synchros in my trans are also going out. Is there a sensor or something behind the motor that I could not see that could be leaking? It is leaking down onto the slave cylinder and front of trans. Also the oil filter is wet but it doesn't appear to be leaking from there.

Could be anything. Check sensors around that area for oil on them, valve covers tightened, etc. Could be your rear main seal if you thought it was the trans. Mines leaking and its a good sized puddle over a few days time. The rear main seal is between the block and the flywheel just incase you werent sure.

A. Rear main seal
B. oil pan
C. lose sensor/plug but you're describing alot of oil for that.
Leaking oil down the oil filter/trans/back of the oil pan is usually the rear main seal, not the quickest fix. And 90% of lt1's leak there. That' assuming the car doesn't have a new oil pan installed and the gasket is leaking or you switched the car to a synthetic oil and cleared the way for some new leaks to push through. CLEAN EVERYTHING under there, wipe it down and see what it looks like after a few spins.

Thanks fellas. I did use synthetic. Mobil 1.
Another buddy says that he thinks its from the back of the intake manifold. I replaced the clutch maybe 200 miles ago. Before that the car sat for a year so not sure if the clutch would still be wet but when i removed it the old clutch was dry. The previous owner would start the car once a week but not drive it. So if it was the rear main seal wouldn't the old clutch be wet?

That's the plan. I was just hoping for someone more experienced to steer me in the right direction. So far it looks like I have a better idea of where to check. I hadn't even considered the intake manifold.
