Default Buying a LT1, What to look for?

Hey everyone. I'm a long time reader, first time poster.

I'm considering getting a 95 Z28 and am going for a final test drive tomorrow. (Yesterday was too wet to get on it good). The car is a 6 speed with a stage 3 racing clutch. Car has new heads decked out with all Manley hardware.

What are some known problem areas I should look for when going over this car?

Thanks in advance

He said problem areas with lt-1's.

Ok this is the deal, our distributer is called an optispark, it's highly sensitive to moisture so where does gm put it. Right under the water pump. Our window motors go every few years, and the wiper motors aren't too far behind.

The best problem area with the lt-1 is that tires don't seem to last too long.

GL, it's a great motor/car. You'll love it.

Thanks. I've only heard about the Opti-Spark which isn't a big deal. I'm coming from Ford and the world is "DIS" which is similar in a way to Opti-Spark.

Other than that, I've heard nothing but positive things. If you guys have anything else, let me know! Thanks!

Don't buy it. Find a stock one. Project cars suck!!

The guys have pretty much covered it. There are quite a few piggybacks/repairs for the optis. The thing that people don't mention often are that it's really only the 92-94 non-vented optis that have most of the problems. The 95+ vented optis don't go out nearly as often as the non-vented ones do... if you can, find a 95 car, they have the best of both worlds. Vented opti, and OBDI computer.

Not all 95s have vented opti sparks, to my knowledge. I thought it was just the late year production models that had them. And you might want to check for oil leaks (intake manifold, timing cover, and oil pan). What other mods does the car have? I'd be even more careful if there has been a lot of mods done to the car, find out who did them and where the parts are from.
