1994 z28, 1300 bucks??? hey guys, some of you know im looking at 2 other cars for the woman and this one would be just for me. Its a 1994 z28, hard top, 188xxx miles, longtubes, exhaust, moroso cai, 3.73's. The guy i work with is selling it, and i remember him and his dad rebuilding the motor about 6 months ago, and it looks nice. Here is the downsides
1.no headliner
2.says when you really stand on it, the rear makes a funny noise, he thinks maybe the clutch in the rear.
3. seats are filthy and carpet is filthy
you guys think its worth the 1300, i always did want a lt1 z28 to fool around with, also how much lighter is a hardtop z28, with cloth and manual winows compared to my 1996 trans am?

Have it inspected and if it turns out to be minor, 1300 is a good price.

Hard-tops are about 15 lbs lighter than T-top cars if I remember right, also a little more rigid. Crank windows don't offer a lot of weight savings, maybe a couple pounds. With the T56 and no ground effects like the TA, I'd imagine that this car is probably 100 lbs lighter or so than your TA if it's an auto.
Entire rear ends can be had for $200-300 on the classifieds and on craigslist and be swapped out in an afternoon, not a big deal IMO. Clean/paint the new one while it's out of the car before you swap them, and also look into panhard bars, lower control arms, upgraded rear end cover (I'd definately change fluid anyway), brake pads/rotors, brake lines, or any other upgrades or general maintenance while it's all super easy to get at.
The interior, if just dirty, can be cleaned no problem. Just pull out the entire interior including the carpet. Take the carpet to a car wash and pressure wash it with soap/water (the loose change you find tearing the interior apart will probably cover the cost at the car wash lol). Remove all the sound deadening under the carpet in there, while your at it for more weight savings. Shampoo/hand clean the seats and floor mats up too while theyre out.
Also, pick up a $30 heat gun at wal-mart or a hardware store. This is a great trick for faded/minor scuffed interior panels:
You'll be absolutely amazed at how HUGE of a difference this makes in the interior. The carpet will be "fluffly" again, plastics will be shiny, and you'll just feel better about climbing into it.
For a couple hundred bucks, and a weekend worth of rewarding work, you'd have a fun cheap car to beat around in.

hey guys, i went to buy it and wow i was in for a shock haha. The picture in the add was WAY nicer than the car. the paint was all faded, interior was all torn up, and dash was cracked. Trans was absolutely horrible, it slipped so bad it was a joke. To top it off, the heat was rising really fast for a 5 minute drive, we let it cool and i checked the level...BONE DRY, nothing in the radiator, i pour water in it, and behold it started spiting out water from the water pump, and was leaking from radiator it self, also started to steam and run rough. A bummer, i always wanted a hard top z28, the guy was asking way tooooo much.
