Default Roots blown lt1

Hey guys i was doing some browsing and found a little info on people using roots blowers on there lt1's, but not many. Just curious why there wasnt more news on these. Also one guy commented on what would need to be done to an old school blower intake to work on the lt1 and he replied

-Cut the water neck off and block the passages
-plug the Dist. hole
-convert bolt pattern (heads or intake..your choice)
-weld in injector bungs, and make custom fuel rails
-go with an LSx style Magnacharger (TB inlet up front....then use an LSx TB)
-Have Magnacharger build a custom jack shaft
-Run your pulley arrangement.
-Make a custom intake setup
If so i might just tinker with this setup and see what we can do. Im not taking this to serious just something to toy with. Any insight would be cool.

What makes more sense is just have SBC heads converted to reverse flow for like 300 - 400 bucks.

This will allow you to use SBC intakes.
Then all you have to do is obviously hood clearance but find a way to route the pulleys.

Basically you'd have to go around the waterpump.

Along the lines of this.

EDIT:

This puts a pulley on the waterpump housing.

It has been done before but if I recall correctly it took several YEARS worth of work and thousands of dollars of trial and error only to have less than impressive results. If the money invested into that project was invested into a more typical setup it would have been a much more impressive animal. IMO, of course.

It was cool to watch though. There's video of it and a build webpage somewhere I think.

cool i thought it would be a pricy thing to toy with. The idea of changing standard sbc heads around sounds interesting, is that something a machine shop could do?

Yes. As I said it costs between 300 - 400 to convert SBC heads.

For my engine in my garage I will be converting Pro-Filer 23* heads. Heads are flow 300cfm as cast. AI 200cc flow just under 300cfm and they are fully CNC LT1 heads.

Remember its not all about CFM flow on heads but its just to give you and idea about the heads difference.

Makes more sense to go to a 90s roller vortec 350 block with sbc heads and all the conventional roots blower parts that just bolt on without mods. a good strong distributor
With ignition controller box. Megasquirt to control it. More tuning control with the ms over the lt pcm.

^ This is a better route.

MS is an awesome Fuel/Spark controller (depending on what you get).

But if I was doing it that way I would not run MS I would just run carbs.

No man, you have to get a blower manifold. I was thinking about doing a roots blower on my drag car that runs on alcohol. I was going to fill the block completely with hard block. Then put some Badass SBC heads on it and run a remote water pump that only moves water through the heads via AN lines. Then use a SBC Roots blower intake. Probably run a 8-71 or 10-71 underdriven. Then put a Buzzard Catcher blower hat on top of it and run it hard. Problem is I don't think it would last in an LT1 block in race mode. I would need aluminum rods and I don't think you can fit them in there.

We would have to figure out how to o-ring the block. Not sure if it would last.

Convert the intake. Ditch the water pump and go with a remote setup. Call ATI and get a std sbc blower drive damper. Then run a crank trigger Msd with carbs.
