Default opti rotor 180° off?

Hey everyone I had replaced Opti cap and rotor and was not paying attention to where the rotor was. My question is could I have put it on 180° off. The car is a 94 lt1

It's not like an SBC distributor that often gets put in 180° off. It could be off, but it could be in any degree if you did not orient the keyway properly. You don't need to know where the rotor is, just the keyway.

[edit] If it was just the cap and rotor (and you did not remove the opti), the rotor can only fit on correctly one way.

Well if you have cylinder #1 at TDC correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't you point the rotor at the #1 plug wire?

I've never replaced just the cap and rotor.
Thats how you do it on a distributor though.

the 94 should be a spline drive opti, and it should only go on one way...but it can be forced if the splines are worn...I always make a mental note of which direction the rotor should be pointed from the location of the wide spline in the timing gear as I install the opti.

It does not matter where the rotor is pointing. As long as when you put the opti on the spline drive is in the correct spline on the cam gear.

Do you have spark out of the coil, and do you have spark out of the opti? Check for both.

Impossible. The spark comes from the coil, goes through the opti, then to the plugs.

well did you check fuel fuel? make sure injectors are firing and such, also on cheaper optis the internal rotor can be off i have pics and i can show you what you mean. Had an issue like this also, bought an ebay opti because i was on a tight budget, put it on got one start with it.... after that it wouldn't work couldn't figure it out for the life of me ripped the whole engine apart checked the timing and and everything. finally i looked at my old opti and my "new" opti and i guess the bearing spun and the rotor was off like 25 degrees from were it should of been causing the car to sort of start but not really run....

The "new" one is incorrect. Are you sure the stub shaft in back is in the keyway correctly? It is keyed going into the opti, just like it is going into the cam gear.

Update she runs like butter now. Thanks everyone for the help. I feel stupid the no start was caused by me putting the spacer in first then the optical wheel causing a bind against the sensor but I swapped those two and she started up faster than ever lol thanks to the new 255lph pump
