Default Oil on my Opti

Something to worry about ? Or just clean it and go. No issues to speak of coming from it.

you really should fix the oil leak. Fix the problem not the symptom.

WP drive seal, easier to mess up than to get right.

Agree. No point in cleaning it up when it is just going to get gunked up again (unless you need to clean it up to see where the leak is).

The leak was fixed awhile ago, and doesn't currently leak.

How can you tell it doesn't currently leak if there is that much gunk and build up? Oil leaking on top of already leaked oil is very hard to spot. And I see oil gunk right up to the WP seal. Who the heck would replace a seal and not clean things up while in there? I always do, there is no other way to confirm your repair worked than to clean things up.

I would clean it up. Then you'll know if it starts leaking again or if they fixed it right. I agree with Mandic also- if they replaced the seal why wouldn't they clean it up while it was apart?

All the shiny/glistening oil in that pic indicate it is fresh leaking oil. If it was not leaking all the gunk would be dull from grime. From the looks of how oil has been slung onto the swaybar, opti and spark plug wires the front crank seal is suspect.

How long ago did they work on it, and what exactly did they do? Did they replace the water pump drive seal? Based on how dirty everything is, I couldn't help but be skeptical as to whether they actually did anything at all. Either way, you should definitely clean it up and determine whether it's still leaking.

X2

It doesn't look like that water pump has been off recently. Bolts look dirty and the mating surfaces don't look like they've been cleaned for reassembly. I'd also put money on the crank seal leaking.

shop replaced wp drive seal???

they must have used a 'stealth" wrench to get the required parts off as there appears to be no witness marks from removing the associated bolts...unless you have driven the car for some period after the repair

would have been better if th eshop hit the TC with some brake cleaner or degreaser prior to re-install of parts

I would suspect your Opti looks like th pics below inside...but without opening it up you won't know

replaceing the wp drive seal (most likely source of leak) is tricky even if you have done it WITH the correct tool (or home made version of one).

It was fixed about 5 months ago, front drive seal. I didn't own the car at the time. My trans guy cleaned it all up. I havent noticed any leaking oil on my drive way, neither did the trans guy for the 4 days it sat in his shop .

Looks like leaky front main to me as well, especially considering how the #1 spark plug wire(lower right in the pic) has more oil on it(and fresh oil) than 7, 3 or 5.
