well I think that I have found our critter, now need to get it built. the really cool thing - I can use my truck to prototype it, if I have a problem just unplug the modded opti and plug the Vortec distributor back into the system. then drive home!!! how cool is that?

Now I'm jealous! I think this would be an awesome solution to keeping the stock look of the LTx platform. Too bad my own work is stalled due to not having a garage. Hopefully that all changes in the next few months. In the mean time keep up the awesome work!

NO NO NO this is a mod to switch to a 411 ECU kind of like I did and not have to install a distributor. IE keep the LT1 intake, this will be mainly for the F bodys that have clearance issues and the Vett guys. Now, if they want to poney up $$ for the 24X sensor and reluctor, they may be able to do CNP??? Hum!! Just thought about the 93 to 95 guys - they don't have the 4X crank trigger, perplexing situatrion??? ah!! one step at a time, get the opti mod done, then look at that issue.

Getting the 4x crank into a 93-95 is easy. Get the timing cover, front hub, and 4x reluctor/CPS from a 96/97. Luckily I have all those parts. All I would need is a modified opti, and a new harness/PCM since mine is a 93.

Oh, and the reason I asked if you were running CNP is, you stated above that all you would have to do to prototype it would be to unplug one an plug in the other. So I was wondering where your spark plug wires would be running....

lol ok i am just going to use the opti (initially) as a CNP and use the vortec distributor as spark distribution. once proven to be viable, the next step will be to move the spark distribution to the modded opti. this will be a slow process. but "I will not" introduce more than one change at a time. the truck is a vital part of my farm and as such it will be hard to take it down for too long of a period.

I'll have a garage available to me next month as we close in a couple weeks, so I'm down! That is as long as I can keep from blowing the engine up this summer running the local index class. Either way I'm going to start working on a harness and PCM this summer. Luckily I'm not in too much of a rush.

On another note, does anyone have an extra 96-97 front cover with the sensor hole they would be willing to part with

You're more than welcome to leave it here, plus it'll help me actually find and see it. I've been so busy lately I almost forgot about trying to get this to work. Lol. I'm loving what I'm seeing though!

sensors should arrive wednesday, then I will get serious about this thing. so far we have figgured out that we will have to fabricate some sort of external method of "setting" the timming to "0" as if it were a vortec distributor.

Ha Ha sensors arrived today, woho!! ok I'm going to level with you all. I am torn between making this public info or trying to get a patent on it. There is 2 problems with the patent idea, first is cost, second is big corp's with croooooked lawers. so common sense says just put it out there??? I am thinking if I mod an opti it will be around $200 +/- exchange. sensor is $50, disk custom built $40+/- then welding time and materials?? any thoughts out there. tomorrow I will have it in the house (warmer) to start the "real world" work.

For $200, getting the ability to run a 411 PCM with little more than a harness swap is a great deal! Figure in the whole shebang for $600-$800 and only really needing to change the opti (for 96/97 cars). Really can't be beat IMO. Then you don't have to worry about all the little things like wires and coils. Plus it keeps the engine looking stock.
