I think my engine was turned to 7 quite a few times by the previous owner, and it's still running plenty strong in my car. I'd feel comfortable getting close to that on occasion if I had a cam that made power up there. I know I pegged the tach a couple times on accident downshifting before I pulled the rev limiter back and haven't had any issues.
If your motor is stock then there is no way in hell anyone could of spun it to 7k. A stock LT1 could only live at 7k if there was new bearings & rods bolts, along with new rings. Im not sure about manual cars but IIRC they are limited to 5800. Cant see a street LT1 with stock internals spin to 7 and have it be running. Stock computer can only handle ~7100 with an all tuned PCM.

As far as the GM847 I once wanted that cam, but if I was to run that cam on the street or track I would be refreshing my bottom end (bearings, rod bolts, resize & conditioning rods, maybe forged pistons) & top end for me not to worry. That dream was when I didnt no anything about these motors and their breaking points. But thats not to say stock bottom ends (and I dont mean untouched bottom ends) cant be revved to 7. Bone stock clearances aren't right for 7k rpms.

IMHO just throw in an 847, cam bearings, rockers, LS7 lifters, and springs but dont expect it to make anymore than 340rwhp with stock un-ported heads with untouched bottom end. I personally wouldn't spin my 200k bottom end past 6300rpm if I wanted to make it back home. Even then I wouldn't risk it.

Its a good cam, but dont just get it for the superficial things or else its not going to last long.. A metaphor that applies for more than just women. lol

It's a stock short block, and it has seen 7. I know I've done it myself a few times before I pulled back my rev limiter. And I know a few guys who have done it a lot more than that on a stock short block (one of them being the guy I got my short block from). Now my engine doesn't have 200k on it (probably around 35k). From the experience of guys who know a lot more than me that helped me put my engine together, the weak link to take a showroom stock LT1 short block to 7 is the opti. But a couple of minutes with a razor blade usually fixes that problem ... I know I know, an opti shouldn't be included with the short block

Like I said, I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

Yeah a guy with a simple looking for parts question has got a 4 page guide of what not to do's and it will and wonts but still no cam.roflmao! For my next post i want a crane 227 and lets see how many pages of why would i run a cam that stops building power below the opti's rpm limit?

Not my favorite cam, but better than some want to make it out to be. Guess they know more than GM engineers. LOL

There isn't much there. It would mean more with ported heads. Done a couple thousand hot cam tunes since 1996. I shift most of those at 6500. Some want 6600. Never a problem as far as I know. Some PCMs won't quite go 7000 some will go 7100. Usually shift the bigger cams at 6900. It's more iffy now that these cars are pretty much high mileage cars. They have not been bad about breaking rod bolts unless they have been apart. Many don't understand torquing the newer torque to yield rod bolts.
Safest thing, of course, (if you REALLY know what you are doing) is give it another half to one thou oil clearance. Many many cars have been run that hard with no problems. I would not race anything without doing the engine myself, but I'm a little **** about my engines. Jmho

Ya its just a thaught i think i have a half set of 1.6s somewhere if i can get a hotcam picked up worth the money id like to play with that also.i dont know what it would be worth but id like to do some ratio splitting on a couple close ratio cams and see for my self if there is a noticeable diff

I would be shocked if it were "noticeable".
Less than ten fwhp from what I have tested.
But, where I race, most of us would slap our Mommas for five. LOL

Ten four. I didnt know if the 1.7s would help on int or exh ive seen a few post where guys had 1.7s on the hot cam and loved em but havent read weather the went from 1.6 and felt the diff or just started with 1.7s. Thatparticular combo looks to me like an ideal ticket on a stock head car. I would think in the average bolt on lt1 that would slightly out perform a 503 with 1.6s. And probly hold its own with the big cam cars without the heads to fead em

I've been having mine shift at 6300 or 6400 (I forget). Maybe I should bump that up a bit. The heads on the car right now have some port work done to them, nothing too crazy though. I think first I have to figure out why the hell it's pulling timing out at idle sometimes, and at WOT. I think my logs are showing about 5 degrees at WOT! At idle I'm seeing up to 7, but I'm hoping that's down to headers hitting the k-member.

They won't hurt, for sure. ONLY way to know how much is to A-B-A them on a dyno, or at the track. Things that small fall within run to run variance. Only way is to back-back-to-back them, and average both sets of numbers. Most guys won't go to the trouble (not **** enough, or just lazy) so don't REALLY know what they are worth. Guys I race with do that all the time. We ain't too bright.

Aw not to bright is an opinion i live in a town of 18 people the nearest track is 2hrs away so when the weather is nice i have plenty of time to swap parts around and go check the ***-o-meter. Its just a fun car dont even have a time with it. Been working to much since i bought it . Hope we can get it to cameron in the next few weeks on a wednesday for some test and tune playing and get a baseline before i start making mistakes lol. Id really like an old 847 and a hotcam to play with and see wich one i like the most and is more fun.
