Default LT1-LS1 Swap

I bought a 95 camaro z28, motor is shot, wanted to know how much work it would be to swap a LS1 motor into my 95 z28, Do I have to change dash boards break lines etc. I heared its a Pain in the *** and not worth it. Any ideas?

Thank You

Plenty of people have done it. In fact I'm currently buying up the parts to swap in a 5.3 truck engine into my car. You don't have to change the dash, or brake lines... You do have to either re-pin an LS1 F-Body harness to work with your car, or buy a swap harness. There are a couple vendors who sell them. You'll also need some of the parts from an LS1 F-Body. The easiest method is to find a wrecked car and pull parts, but you can find the parts you need here (which is what I'm doing).

Check out this thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversio...on-sticky.html

I'd also look at the Conversions/Hybrids section. There are quite a few build threads.

As far as worth it... It's really up to if you feel the work you'd put in is worth it. I love the LT1, but there is not denying that the LS engines have some serious potential. Mod for mod an LS with almost always put down more power. Not to mention the LS engine have a larger after market. Not trying to start an argument. Like I said, I have a soft spot in my heart for the LT, I just feel that the LS will get me to my goals a lot easier/cheaper (even with swapping).

^^^ I agree with him. The hard and expensive part is the initial swap. After that then you can get ahead in the power part of it eventually.

Ya but a 5.3 will make similar power to an LT1 tho.

5.3crate motor is rated at 327hp and 340trq, easly better than an lt1 and with smaller displacement. To build one would be cheaper than building an lt1 and power would be way better.

Mod for mod the 5.3 should make a little more power. The options for the 5.3 are the same as the LS1. You'll make a couple hp less on the 5.3 than the ls1, but JY engines can be bought on ebay all day long for $500 shipped to a local freight pickup. I'm planning on doing the swap and adding a turbo. LT1's are no joke when set up properly, but the LS platform just has more leg room to grow. Plus, the power some of the guys on here are getting with a turbo'd 5.3 is just nuts.

5.3 has a better rod/stroke ratio favoring boost as well I believe

I think you're right. I know a stock LT1 can handle a decent amount of boost, but it really seems like the 5.3 was built for it.

327hp/340tq only because it has a hotter cam in it than the junkyard version..

yes sir, I was just using that as an example, realistically if you get a JY 327 your probably going to get it rebuilt and put in a hotter cam anyway though. so there's more power to be had. even the stock 327 is around 315hp i think?

I want to LS swap for the sole reason of better handling and less weight, reliability and more power are plus' as well but for autocross racing I dont even use all the power I have now lol

Not sure what happened to my post from yesterday... but make sure to plan / price it all out in advance. This stuff adds up quick!!!

I'm doing a 5.3 LM7 (stock internals, just a refresh and arp head studs) / 4l80e / small turbo kit in a 95 and the bill is already over 10k, and will probably be 15 all said and done.

Damn, are you buying gold plated parts? I'm probably going to be right around $3500 when my build is all said and done (not including selling my old LT1).

Nope not at all! But I did get aftermarket instead of junkyard for things like the K member which added cost. Also, rebuild the block and heads which was almost a grand in machine work alone... $500 or so on gaskets... ARP head studs and rod bolts... it adds up fast..
