Motor mounts are same for sbc, your issue is squeezing a dizzy under the cowl, but it can be done.

The mounts are not the same. The LT1 mounts only use 2 of the 3 normal sbc mount holes on the block, and one boss the regular sbc does not have. Welding a tab on the LT1 mounts is needed. Then you can cut the no longer used extended ears off. Pulling the distributor will require pulling the manifold with it. Raise the distributor up and slide them out from under the cowl together.

you could also go with an aftermarket tubular k-member with sbc mounts, but that will cost a lot more than modifying your stocker

IIRC you can get a pull style clutch for a 2-piece flywheel. McCleod I think makes one. Either that or they make a 2-piece flywheel that works with a T-56... Don't remember exactly.

Your LT1 flywheel will bolt up to any '86+ Gen I SBC with a 1-piece rear main seal and everything else will be the same.

Then you have to figure out your accessories, wiring, gauges, sensors, cooling system, throttle setup, intake setup, distributor, etc etc.

Can I ask why you don't want to just find a cheap used LT1 to throw back in? You have some work ahead of you to get this to work right when you can just go get a good motor and be back on the road.

I agree with this question. Unless the car is going to be used for a drag car or something along those lines, converting to a Gen 1 SBC is a lot of work for really no gain. The car would also be a lot harder to sell IMO because it would be such a conglomeration that it would scare buyers away. There are replacement LT1's to be had......

Did you think about putting a LS motor in the car? You can get 5.3 litres cheap these days, they can make some serious h/p a lot more than a Gen 1 block.

Read what I said, you're t-56 will bolt up flawlessly to any '86+ SBC.

Perhaps he has a pre-'86 block in his possession he's wanting to use?

I just think it's going backwards trying to drop in a carbed SBC, not to mention MULLET and PBR come to mind. IMO, you would be money ahead making an LT1 faster than trying to cobble up a standard GEN I in there. Yes the aftermarket is better for a standard SBC but you have other issues to work out before you can even drop it in. At that point, and LS is a better choice.

If that's the case then yes a TH350-400 would be easier.
