some of them even lose substantial power and never figure out where it went.
Don't think I have seen a documented actual improvement with this swap. You see comments like "idles smother".

The LS1 system is technically superior but to swap it to an LT1 is not so superior from a practical standpoint unless you want to rev over 7000rpm.

If YOU are competent the opti works pretty well, if you are INCOMPETENT you will have as much trouble getting this to work as you would an opti but with this option you will have pissed away enough money to buy some good parts that could have made a big HP difference.

Though many don't agree with the swap but I will say it's worth 10x itself when it comes to tuning and drivability.

The Opti is a dinosaur and unless you want to go through the pain of tuning LTx, be my guest.

4-6 minutes to load a tune where as LSx pcm can tune many tables while you're driving.

In a simple statement. It's like having disc brakes over drum brakes. Both will stop you, but one is far superior.

if I am going to spend the money on a new msd opti might as well do the 24x bc sooner or later the opti WIL go out again and the price I would pay to do the 24x will save me money in the end. this will be a second time I will have bought an msd $1000 + on opti crap, ive had good luck with my opti but I think its on its way out the door

Unless you have some outrageous setup that no one else has then converting to 24x is completely unwarranted.

Also, the MSD opti is crap (but it does look pretty good).

I have NEVER had an opti failure and only ever used Delco optis. One of the biggest problems with the opti is people are stupid and can't grasp cap and rotor replacement and when they neglect it to the point of being a problem they continue their stupidity by buying a $350 whole opti instead of a $100 cap and rotor, and as said already the $500 MSD is a step backwards from a $350 stocker and extra stupid when most cases all the stocker needs is a $100 cap. You really want to argue that the 24x saves money vs. buying a couple cap and rotor kits?

It is mostly for tuneability. You can harp on how the Opti is just fine adn all that, but that is not the point. There is nobody within a couple hundred miles to tune an LT1, so I made the swap and never looked back. Oh, and I still had the factory Opti that was working fine. But I was adding a procharger so made the switch to 24x at the same time. As long as you can move some wires, you can rewire it yourself to save a lot of money...

So, What your saying is that you are still on your factory installed opti.

If not and NEVER had one fail...Then why was it changed??? No one replaces a $400 piece just for the hell of it. Besides, how many Delco optis have you bought? 3 would have paid for the swap.

I will back up the 24x all day long. BTW, AC Delco will be discontinuing the Opti soon. Fuel pumps and senders are already there and whatever is left in inventory is being sold and not replaced.

I did one on my 93, wasn't so much the opti because that never really game me trouble it was more so the chip ECM. The last guy I knew who did mail order stuff on that has since stopped. Having the LS1 based tuning software is nice because more tuners are willing to deal with it rather than an LT1 PCM. Where I live no one touches the LT1 PCMs anymore, no matter the year. The caveat to that is, you can still get a crappy tune no matter what the PCM is. Just because a lot of people tune a certain PCM-ECM doesn't mean by and large they're good at it.

I like the conversion because there are a few features in the Ls1 pcm that i like. I am another that NEVER had an opti issue worked like a champ! To me i just feel it is an upgrade especially since my TA is a '93 the bastard year for us!!!!
