Y pipe to header weld questions

Y pipe to header weld questions
So i had a muffler shop make me a "custom" y pipe for my longtubes and they welded them to my headers. So now i want to buy a y pipe made for my headers but am unsure on how i would go about removing the old one? I do have access to a grinder and reciprocating saw. Do i just cut right after the headers leaving some of the old y on and then just grind it down? I want to completely get rid of the old y pipe because the shop used like a 2.25 inch pipe. Any tips?

I left my catback on my car when I did my headers and Y pipe. I used v-band flanges to make all my connections. This required a fairly square and accurate cut on the I pipe of the cat back to get it to meet up to the new Y pipe.
I ended up clamping a hose clamp around the I pipe where the cut needed to be. I then made the cut with a nice new sawsall blade using the clamp as a guide to keep it straight and square. Worked good. You can then use an angle grinder to fine tune anything.
