You dont have to lower compression to run spray. If anything you wana raise it. There bunch of people sprayin with 12.1 compression.

The stock gasket is already rather thick and using a thicker one to lower compression for nitrous is just an expression of pure ignorance.
Long as there is no boost involved you should be looking at if anything a thinner head gasket. Nitrous loves compression. The stock 10.4 compression ratio is very conservative for NA and nitrous.

The stock LT1 can be fairly happy on nitrous to say 150-175 shot if the tuning is OK but seeing as you popped a head gasket and think thicker is the answer I will go out on a limb and say your ignorance lead to a bad tune and the popped gasket.

Get the heads checked for straightness, the stock gasket is .049, felpro has one that is .039, Mr. Gasket/Victor Rienz has a .026. The stock shortblocks has the pistons way down in the hole so good quench won't happen, the .026 is the easiest way to try and improve that, but the Felpro is easier to find. No way in hell would I consider stock or thicker for a stock shortblocks NA or Nitrous.

What he said ^^^. Lowering your compression goin to drop hp on motor and the bottle. You need to run a .026 gasket when u put it back together. Only reason to ever lower compression on stock or mild built motor. Is to run boost.

Stack two stock gaskets per side, advance timing all, and then add a .080 nawz pill.

That should def do it. You may blow the rivets on the timing cover though.

I thought it was "two big bottles" that blew the timing cover rivets?

If he has a .080 pill, he already has two big bottles.

But seriously, You want to raise compression. Lowering it is NOT the right thing to do in this case.

loving all the Fast and Bicurious references! By the OPs account, I did my 396 lt1 all wrong being 12.3:1 SCR @ zero decked & .030 gaskets and a 200 shot. I guess that was a waste of a $13k build. N2O isn't boost, get that CR up to somewhere useful. Hell even stock CR isn't terrible with reasonable boost and proper tuning.

I thought it was the intake manifold welds that would blow. But that isn't the way vins father got killed, anyway. He got it in turn 2 of a pro stock race (you know - the return road to the pits)
