CA emission, go back to stock?
So, I'm thinking of going back to stock. I'll have to add air pump, egr, stock exhaust manifold, stock Y pipe with cat. Seems like this is the only way ill be able to drive my Z again. Right now, I have few bolt-on's but not sure if this is the best way. Thought of swapping out the long tubes suck!
Anyone out here have same issue? If so, what mods do you have and how you getting it passed?

Should you decide to stay, you would need your EGR and air pump functioning there to get inspected....however there are CARB legal headers, I have some on mine, Pacsetter mid-tubes, they have the CARB certification engraved on them and they are legal since they keep the stock location of the cat(s).
Oh yeah, I've got an air pump and all that emissions junk that came off my car when I went 383 if you want to buy it! lol
No EGR, air pump, CATS removed or relocated back further due to long tubes will = fail, period. Does not matter if pure oxygen is coming from tail pipe (irony)
Put on CARB approved intake & exhaust (or stock) and put the EGR & air pump back on.
You can have a H/C 355/383 with CARB intake & headers and pass. Yeah HP is left on the table....part of the reality in Calif. to pass emission testing both visual & tailpipe.
You could also figure out a way to register the car in AZ or another state will less rigid emission testing....that can lead to other problems in terms of insurance. Especially if you are involved in a "at fault" accident.
Anyways John Lingenfelfter built a 425hp/468ft-lbs 383 LT1 through the stock exh manifolds so performance is possible with the stock manifolds. Hey BTW i think the '95 was a dual cat in CA and rated higher in hp - not so bad as '94 stock exh.
I dont think u will have problems with a good high flow cat and 3" catback system either. I would install Magnaflow back there.
Plenty of 4th gen part outs and u can find air pump and plumbing on craiglist or the local boneyard - or even buy new. And your there. Dont know if '94 exh manifolds, air pumps and plumbing are the same - u need to check - but artchie may save u from even shopping.
I dont know what other mods u are running but if u have resticted exh then its useful to use 10 degrees more exh duration on your cam than the intake - this should help performance.
Gone threw every inch of my car I know it inside out, I have a personal attachment to it. Build the car from empty shell ground up.I just started to buy parts on ebay got the cat back, exhaust manifold, and now just trying to get all the parts to the air pump including the pipe. I have a extra EGR sitting around so I am close to getting all the parts. Fun part is doing the work.

My Z came with single cat. Back in 1995 all the 6 speed Z28's came with single cat and all the Auto Z28's got dual cat.
I will miss the sound of my long tube, but might just build another engine and swap it next time around.

I passed at a star station late last year (https://ls1tech.com/forums/lt1-lt4-m...d-build-2.html) with the mods noted below.
Good luck
