Default Cam Install On A 94 Z28

Over the coming winter i have decided to go with a cam rr's valvesprings harden pushrods the cam i am going with is obvisouly is the CC503. Question is do you have to drop the motor? or can i hall the condensor and radiator out of the way? Will there be enough room to remove the stock cam than? Thanks.

You can pull the radiator out and the condenser up and out of the way. You will have like mm's of room lol. But you've got room

Remove the radiator, move the condenser and remove the plastic deflector in front of the condenser. With that done there's tons of room. I was able to stand between the engine and core support when re-installing the intake manifold. But I'm a skinny f'er.

Just did this a few months back, there's just barely enough space to get cams in and out with the rad out and the condenser zip tied out of the way

Yup, like everyone stated. Just move everything off the front along with the hood latch and there will be just enough room to slide it out.

Thanks to shbox I did my first cam swap and valve springs on a 94 trans am. It's easy and straight forward, just triple check everything and be sure to have a torque wrench.

Now I have a bone stock 95 vette and I'm wondering if the cam will come out with the engine in. With the vette I can see the back of the lt1, now the front is cramped! I can't decide between cc503 or lt4 hotcam.

Good luck with it, have a hub puller ready, and a valve spring tool, and try your best not to rip the pan gasket or you are in for a whole new level of fun lol.

I definitely recommend the CC503 for stock heads. Drives pretty good and makes some damn good power. I went from running 13.4s to 12.6s with just the cam and supporting valve train.

12.6's is nice. My problem is there are a lot of lt4 hotcam cars running damn good times as well, just as good as almost any other cam only setup out there, but they retain alot of driveability, plus they have proven their reliability. The lt4 hotcam doesnt need to be revved as high as a cc503 to see its potential either, so a spun bearing is a little less likely. On the other side of things, the lt4 hotcam is old tech, LE or AI probably have a cam that can do better then it and still act the same, atleast I would like to think so. I just know 10-15hp isnt worth sacrificing how the car drives on the street to me anymore. Id rather make the power up with say...a 100 shot! lol.

btw, not saying the cc503 has any issues, but I do recall if shift points/rpms arent set right it can be a big difference in 1/4 mile times. The 503 likes to rev a little higher. But its also been a proven cam as well. Tough choices.

Funny you should mention about the shiftpoints when i first bought the car it had a shiftkit installed would not go over 4,500 rpm's. i tried to shift the car myself soon as 4,500 bang in the next gear. When i installed my converter i got a tune frompcm4less, they hit it right on. Now the car is shifting at 5,800 now i think.I was talking to them they tell me when i am ready send it down. A buddy of mine has the LT4 hotcam in his Vette, he thinks he is going to smoke me next yr. We will see about that.

Something in the back of my head is telling me the 503 likes to go even higher then 5800rpm, more like 6200-6400rpm to get its full potential.

Yeah I shift my car at 6400 at the track, it definitely makes power all the way up there. I don't expect it to last forever since it's still the stock 119K mile motor.
