Default New intake elbow?

I was installing an air foil on the inlet to my throttle body, and I took off the elbow to the intake. But what is this long thing at the bottom of it??? Is this hurting performance at all??

It's a silencer and I doubt it has any appreciable effect on performance.

Exactly. You can buy a plug for pretty cheap though if it bothers you.

I think they just discovered there were a few square inches left in the engine compartment and figured they'd fill it with something...Haha

If your looking to get rid of it, a 1LE intake elbow will do it. I got one years ago. As the other's have mentioned, I don't think it hurts performance...just takes up space and looks strange.

The GM part numbers off Shoebox's page for 1LE elbows are....
http://shbox.com/1/Parts.htm

25147187 with a hole for vented Opti(95-97)
25147210 without a hole for non-vented Opti(93-94).

From the picture you posted, you would need 25147187.

Looks like a decent deal here....

I think they have come down in price. I seem to remember paying much more than $120 for mine.

On eBay there are a ton of aluminum elbows that look nicer. TFS also make 3 kinds of aluminum elbow: satin, polished and black.

You need to clarify if it's a 93-94(non-vented opti) or 95-97(vented opti) model 1LE. That is important.

+1 for this suggestion if you're not set on keeping a stock look.

It's "vented", I had it on my '96. I didn't realize there was a difference in the elbow.....

The 93-94 1LE will not have the vent hole for the Opti fresh air intake.

I mistakenly bought a 93-94 version and could not use it as it didn't have the vent hole. Some suggested just drilling one, but I wanted the formed hole as it has the support structure built in to keep the opti fresh air intake fitting properly sealed and supported.
