You'll seriously be hard pressed to pull 550+rwhp through a LTx. intake.. Bret Bauer is making a intake that will out perform a fully ported welded LTx intake over on CZ28.com in the LT1 tech section look it up.. Great post.. Good info.. As far as heads go.. YOu'll be looking at least a AFR 210 at a bare minimum w/ a big *** cam'.. I'm working on a 396 have the short block done already.. just working on the top end.. but it's going to be a ALL Pro 23 deg. head Converted for Rev. Cool, Shaft mount's, etc..and a Single plane intake and aTB on top.. Not exactly your budget minded setup... But should perform in the HP are your looking to be at.. if you wanna talk about it further shoot me a email plattners@enterprise.navy.mil Out to sea right now and net is a lil bit slow...

I'm thinking a very large Hydraulic roller, or solid roller, and a SB2.2 conversion. I think a guy on CZ28.com again is making something like 578 with a solid/SB2.2 conversion.
Better yet, why not go for a set of Arao Dominion 32V heads????
Either way is extremely expensive, but your best shot at all motor. Either that or let Joe O build it for ya!

I'm just shooting for 450 rwhp with my 396 hydraulic roller with my new cam. The stock ported intake probably isn't good for much more than that. For what you might put into a sheet metal intake, get a big N20 shot. That's what I would do, but I'm all about value for your money. My aspirations are probably different than yours.

it is possible, my friend has done it with only ported lt1 heads and a good size solid roller with a 200 shot . the car went 9.80 at 138. my combination makes 430 rear wheel though a th400 and a loose converter with a monster cam and ported lt1 heads my cam specs are 264/270 @ .050" .680"lift car is shifted at 7600-7800rpm. you should have no problem making those numbers. don't forget that every dyno is different and if you dont make your power numbers see what happens at the track

I am in the process of trying to buy a board members 410ci shortblock. I was planning on using AFR 227's ported and the LT4 intake. What process would I need to go about as far as welding the intake like you all are talking about. I am going to go solid roller also and would like to make 530-550rwhp. Thanks. Sorry if I was hijacking but I thought this would be a good place to ask this.

If you go to cz28.com and search for ltx intake....there is a link there to the sheetmetal style lt4/lt1 intake....or take a look at the the thread 9 second car goal...a little lower...the intake is there. It's 1500 bucks plus core...but looks bad ***

Weld the intake at all four points behind the injector so it has some structure left and then you can port out around where the injector has a lump in the runner.

Here is my opinion:
You wont reach 600rwhp at all on motor and it will probabaly run you $20k for abuildup to get you in the 520-550rwhp ball park. Why bother sacrificing driveability when you can run a streetable 450-475rwhp stroker and just shoot a big shot of the good stuff. Its cheaper to spray an extra 75rwhp then it is too squeeze it out of all motor.

As far as juice...thanks, i can read. Thats why I said its cheaper/easier to spray the extra 75rwhp (like a 275rwhp shot instead of 200 shot), then trying to squeeze 75rwhp more N/A. He already plans to spray big, why not just change jets and go a little bigger? If he wants 550-600rwhp N/A all the time, then most likely it will only be at the track cuz i am willing to bet a N/A 550-600rwhp LT1 will be a pain to drive on the street. THEREFOR, if he will only do a little weekend warrior stuff and mostly hit the track, then use the juice to get you there.

Look at this Dyno
409 Cubic Inches: LT1 motor
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7610/dyno.htm
When TPIS ports a LT1 head it spanks an LT4 head and the basic AFR heads... out of the box.... Even at 409 cubes a ported stock head could'nt reach that with an aftermarket intake.
Id get raised runner heads in fact these heads...
http://www.airflowresearch.com/pages/215sbc_rr_lt1.htm
AFR 215cc raised runner LT4 heads... Same as their raised runner Gen I heads except for a gen II... Alot of the engine masters competiton winners swear by those heads..
This guy gut the unfinished enginebuilder heads.... Just have a good engine builder make you some completed units..
http://www.popularhotrodding.com/eng...wns/index.html
604 crank hp with about 350 cubes....
Its mostly in the head, cam and intake.....
Now add your stroke and some bigger cams and you would be in the ballpark..
Maybe have the heads worked a bit by a good porter and have a LT1 intake port matched to the raised runners, ported for a big throttle body... Maybe even extrude hone it... Maybe just have bret make one to match the raised runners To get that kind of whp you will need to make the most out of every area you can...
215 raised runner head out of the box
Here is their basic LT4 head
If you cant afford really expensive stuff like 18 degree heads the 215 raised runners bring home almost as much bacon....
Get a forged gun drilled lightweight crank..... If you are running a 200 shot go forged h-beam with the rods and get a nice thick flatop piston..... It will cost some ponies due to reciprocating weight when you are off the n20 but will live when you are on it...
